Summer registration under way at School of the Old Forge Ballet Co.

Registration is underway at the School of The Old Forge Ballet Company for July and August 2013. Classes will run for six weeks beginning July 7 through August 17th.

Artistic Director Sue Ann Lorenz-Wallace,  and Linda Lorenz LaDue, former artistic director of The Old Forge Ballet Co., head the teaching staff.

The Cecchetti Method of classical ballet training is the curriculum taught at the school.

Teachers at the Company School are highly trained in the Cecchetti Method and have taken and successfully completed Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, London, England examinations by USA and world-wide examiners. Continue reading

Fall registration starts at Old Forge Ballet Co.

Fall registration has begun for the School of the Old Forge Ballet Company with classes beginning on Tuesday, September 11 for the 2012-2013 season.

Preparation is underway for the December 1 performance of the Nutcracker ballet at the Strand Theatre.

The school and company are dedicated to the children and adults of the Adirondacks who wish to enjoy dynamic dance classes in a friendly manner.

Classes for male and female students, pre-ballet through adults in the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet are taught.

The concentration is on developing the student’s education through the art of dance with the focus on classical ballet as the basis for all creative movement. Ballet is the ultimate exercise for all ages and physiques.

It increases strength and improve balance, grace and stamina while promoting mental relaxation.

It can help the footwork of the soccer player, agility of the football player, and stamina of the downhill skier.  Balance, coordination and music appreciation are all improved through dance. Continue reading

Free dance classes available Fridays for winter

In an effort to enhance the cultural atmosphere of Old Forge and surrounding areas, The School of the Old Forge Ballet Company is conducting free classes on Fridays throughout the winter to Adirondack Park residents.

This is a terrific opportunity for an adult or child who has always wanted to take a dance lesson, but was unable to make a long-term commitment to a program or performance.

Classes in Ballet, Tap & Jazz, Ballroom, Beginning Piano, Introduction to Performance and Workshops in Latin and Modern Dance are offered for students ages pre-school to adult. Continue reading

Old Forge Ballet Co. presents Nutcracker

The Old Forge Ballet Company presented two performances of its annual holiday production of The Nutcracker at the Strand Theatre on Saturday, November 19th.

The cast included students of the ballet company and members of the community, and featured guest artists and principal dancers, Jennifer Grapes- McIntyre and Darren McIntyre from the acclaimed Milwaukee Ballet.

“We are so pleased that so many came to the Strand and enjoyed the two performances.

It was our first year of doing a matinee, and we were extremely thrilled to see so many young people in the audience,” said Ballet Company spokesperson, Linda LaDue.

Old Forge Ballet to present Nutcracker, November 19th

The Old Forge Ballet Company will present two performances of the Nutcracker at the Strand Theatre in Old Forge on Saturday, November 19.

A matinee with narration will take place at 2 p.m, and the evening performance will begin at 7 p.m. A reception at the Forge Motel Lobby will follow the final showing and all are welcome to attend.

The Nutcracker, which has become a local holiday tradition, will feature principal guest artists Jennifer Grapes and Darren McIntyre dancing the roles of Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

This will mark the fourth time the international pair will join 40 company dancers and community performers from Eagle Bay, Inlet, Indian Lake, Old Forge, Thendara, Woodgate, for Tchaikovsky’s two act ballet Casse-Noisette (Nutcracker) at The Strand.

Old Forge: Dates set for fall dance school and ‘Nutcracker’ auditions

The Old Forge Ballet Company will conduct fall registration and 2011 “Nutcracker” auditions for students on Wednesday, August 31 at 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. for new students; and August 31 at 7 to 8 p.m. and September 3 at 1 to 3 p.m. for returning students.

Registration and auditions will be held on the 2nd floor of the North Woods Community Center, 110 Crosby Blvd. in Old Forge.

Sessions begin on Sunday, September 11 for the 2011-2012 season.

Preparation for the “Nutcracker” ballet in December 2011 presented at the Strand Theatre is underway.

The School and Company are dedicated to the children of our mountain communities and adults who wish to enjoy dynamic dance classes in a friendly manner.

Classes for male and female students ages 2 through adult in Cecchetti Classical Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Ballroom will be taught. Modern dance workshops by Whitney Denesha will also be offered.

The staff of instructors includes Sue Ann Lorenz-Wallace, Director of the School and Artistic Director of the Company; Linda Lorenz LaDue, former Artistic Director of the company; and Laurie Waranis and Luann Bowen, company dancers.

The Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet is considered the Creme de la Creme of ballet training throughout the world.

Teachers at the Company School are highly trained in the Cecchetti Method and have all taken and successfully completed Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, London, England examinations by USA and world wide examiners in various levels to Advanced.

Mme. Wallace and Mme. LaDue were formerly with the 1000 Islands Festival Ballet Company in Watertown.

They received their teacher’s training from Jean Spear, Fellow/ Examiner Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, London, England and founder of Florida Ballet Co. in 1962 and Watertown’s Ballet Co. in 1982.

Both are founding members of The New York State Ballet Association and Associate Directors of The Cecchetti Students Ballet Company Tour in 1991.

Mme. Wallace brings 30 years of teaching experience to the benefit of the community.

In 1993 she incorporated the Old Forge Ballet Company with her sister Mme. LaDue to bring the culture of classical ballet to the Adirondacks.
