Old Forge DMV to close Oct. 27 & 28

The Old Forge DMV Satellite Office at 183 Park Ave. will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28.

Drop boxes, located at the front of the building, are available for work to be left when the office is not open.

Regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., closed from noon to 1 p.m. The office can be reached at (315) 369-3301.

Fire Auxiliary to host Election Day bake sale

The Old Forge Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host a bake sale on election day, Tuesday, November 4, at the Park Avenue Building.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the organization’s scholarship fund at Town of Webb School.

The auxiliary welcomes donations of baked goods. Items can be delivered from 8 a.m. on election day.

AYSO says thank you

The Old Forge AYSO Board of Directors would like to thank everyone who purchased 50/50 raffle tickets during the Columbus Day Soccer Tournament. Close to $600 was raised to help support our youth soccer program.

This is the group’s biggest fundraiser of the year and the monies will go towards new equipment, supplies and uniforms. A big thank you to the Town of Webb Varsity Club and Athletic Director Dave Leach, for welcoming the raffles.

Congratulations to Friday evening’s winner, Sarah Hulser, and Saturday evening’s winner, Jerry Levi.

VIEW announces winner of the ANEAW Viewer’s Choice Award

Artist Daniel K. Tennant of New Woodstock, NY has been awarded the Berkowitz Viewer’s Choice Award in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors at VIEW, the art center in Old Forge, for his painting, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.395_TennatDaniel_heretoday

The 29-inch by 35-inch gouache (opaque watercolors), photo realistic, still life depicts an arrangement of day lilies, glass bottles, marbles and an old lantern set against a backdrop of peeling blue paint.Tennant views the work as an allegory for the fleeting nature of life, said Cory Card VIEW’s exhibitions manager. LETTER: Bully tactics in Town of Forestport government

To the Editor:

At one of the budget workshops where all Town Board members compile ideas for the upcoming budget, Supervisor Parker Snead tried to suppress one of the Board members from speaking.

Charles Scott started to address the board members, but when Parker figured the point Charles was making, Parker tried to silence him.

Charles actually had to say to Parker, words to the effect of, “Do you want to hear what I have to say or are you just going to bully me?” Continue reading
