The Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter’s Drill School ‘14 wrapped up on Sunday, September 14 with the drawing for the winners in the Big Bucks Give-Away raffle.
A large crowd was gathered at the fire hall as Jamie Loson pulled the winning names.
Taking the top prize of $9,158.50 was Arlene Bolmer of Old Forge.
The second place winner was Brian Murphy of Old Forge who won $4,931.50.

While the Helldiver Pond moose in the Moose River Plains has been eluding photographers and curiosity-seekers for weeks, another bull moose appeared in the Singing Waters/Okara Lakes areas on Tuesday, September 16, much to the surprise and delight of homeowners and motorists passing through the area.
Garry Evans first saw the moose while outside his Tamarack Lake home. Evans said the animal was within 100 feet of his back door before it took a turn to swim across the lake. Continue reading
The fall session of the Linking Lives through Reading Program at the Old Forge Library is open to second graders in the Town of Webb and Inlet School Districts.
The inter-generational one-on-one reading program will be held each Thursday from Septem-ber 25 through October 30 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Call the Library at 369-6008 by September 20 to register your second grader and/or to volunteer as a “Book Buddy.”
Adult Volunteers are always needed.
The program is made possible by the Leola Tobin Memorial Fund.
I never was much of a fan of the show “A-Team” that appeared on TV during my college years. Back then I had little time to watch anything but sports.
But it seems an expression from that show has crept into my jargon.

Doesn’t everyone just adore the Bucket List idea? How great to make a list of all the things we’ve always wanted to do before we leave this world and then slowly tick away at that list.

Freaky weather coninues across the globe. Over three feet of rain hit the Philippines with Typhoon Kalmegi. There was flooding in Kashmir, and parts of the main city of Srinagar—population one million—remain submerged in water.
Hurricane Odile hit the Baja of Mexico and California with winds over 140 miles an hour and heavy rains.
Yet in northern California conditions are dry. The King Fire (5,000) acres burned up half a town just last night ( 9/15) and threatens another 500 homes. Continue reading
