The Adirondack Council released its State of the Park report for 2014 on Wednesday, September 3, giving a detailed account of the accomplishments, major challenges, and disappointments from local, state and federal officials’ actions affecting the Park over the past year.
The best ways for government officials to help the Adirondack Park would be with significant new investments in clean water, infrastructure and invasive species controls, plus science-based reform of the rules and regulations for development, the report concluded. Continue reading

Among the auction items are three handcrafted quilts, a bird carving by local artist Andrée Dennis Newton, a one-week stay for four at a Hilton Head condo, a Yakima 66” trailer, an Elie Strait 120 kayak donated by Frisky Otter Tours, framed photographs, and paddle-related merchandise. Primary elections will be held across the country on Tuesday, September 9, including the Town of Webb where three candidates will vie for the Republican nod for Town Webb Justice.
The candidates are Patrick J. Venetz, Anthony Tormey, and sitting Town Justice James Miller. According to Herkimer County Board of Elections, each of the candidates has also filed independent petitions and regardless of the primary outcome, will be on the ballot in the November 4 general election. The Town of Webb School’s Drama Depart-ment will be holding a Chicken Barbecue fundraiser at the school bus circle on Route 28 on Saturday, September 13 beginning at noon.

Elbert Gong, the winner of the 2013 Julia Crane International Piano Competition, will perform at the 10th Annual Cabin in the Woods Concert, on Sunday, September 7 at 2 p.m.
Gong’s concert, presented by VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge, will be performed ona 1908 Steinway Concert B grand piano and will include selections by Bach, Frank, Debussy, and Liszt. Continue reading
