Perfect weather conditions for a weekend of ice hockey action

An epic winter storm is scheduled to hit the east coast sometime tomorrow…at least it got the news media talking about something other than deflated footballs.
If the big cities get as much snow as predicted in the computer models it could be crippling and even life threating for many folks.
We had more up and down weather this week with temperatures in the –20 range a couple nights and then up in the high 20s the next day—almost a 50 degree temperature change. Continue reading
Old Forge Library names judges for 2015 Poetry & Illustration Contest
Entries for the Old Forge Library’s annual Poetry and Illustration Exhibit, following the theme of Mountains and Roots, will be accepted from February 3 through March 3.
Entries will be judged in four age categories: grades K to 4, grades 5 to 8, grades 9 to 12, and adult and is open to residents of Herkimer, Oneida and Madison counties and the Town of Inlet.
Polar Bear Ski Club Youth nordic skiers place well in weekend races

Carter Lawrence, the sole Polar Bear Ski Club alpine athlete racing at the U18 level this year, has been a consistently strong competitor throughout the season and has qualified to compete at the Empire State Games in Lake Placid on Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8. Continue reading
Polar Bears: U16 Alpine girls race
The U16 Alpine Polar Bear Girls Team competed in a giant slalom race at Windham Mountain on Saturday, January 24 and a slalom race at Belleayre Mountain on Sunday, January 25. Their placements in Saturday’s race were: 17th -Alexis Hollister; 32nd -Alex DiOrio; 33rd – Alex Sutherland.
At Sunday’s race, Alexis Hollister placed 16th, Alex Sutherland placed 23rd, and Alex DiOrio, 26th.
