Diane Howe, a certified health care professional, invites area residents to stop by and learn about the many services available through her new venture, Adirondack Home Medical Supply, that will open in Old Forge on Friday, February 6 at the Old Forge Chiropractic office of Dr. Douglas Thayer.
Adirondack Home Medical Supply will provide professional services to clients in assessing their individual home medical needs—including personal home evaluations.
Howe’s goal is to create a healthier and safer environment that will allow not only seniors, but aging baby boomers, to enjoy life in their own homes.
“As we all know, as we age and take a fall it sets us back. If we can prevent someone from having to go into a nursing home due to a fall—that’s certainly our goal,” Howe said.
Another aspect of the business is to ensure proper fitting of medical supplies and equipment such as compression stockings, canes and walkers, which some consumers believe to be one-size-fits-all.
“We find that so often people walk into a retail store and purchase these types of supplies, then when they get home find they don’t fit…and most of these items are non-returnable,” Howe said.
Adirondack Home Medical Supply will have some supplies that can be purchased on-site, with others available by special order.
Howe has spent her entire adult life in the field of medical service. She worked 12 years as a home health care professional before taking a job as a physician’s office manager.
Three years ago she partnered with Dr. Thayer in founding Emergency Medical Supply of New Hartford, which provides a full line of medical supplies to EMS agencies throughout New York state, including 150 ambulance agencies in CNY.
She is also a certified EMT-B.
For the time being, Howe plans on getting acquainted with the community and their needs on Fridays during Dr. Thayer’s regular office hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning February 6, however she is available by appointment by calling (315) 724-2420.
The office is located in the Muffin Patch Complex, 2946 State Route 28.
