Water testing pick-ups set for the region

Verona Labs will provide pick up of water samples for testing on Tuesday, October 14th.

Local businesses or individuals that wish to utilize this service can drop off water samples by 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Forestport Town Hall or Adirondack Grocery in Otter Lake, or by 11 a.m. at the Visitor Information Center in Old Forge, or by noon at The Tavern in Eagle Bay or the Inlet Town Hall. A family tribute to the late Mary Diamond

Mary Diamond of Old Forge, passed away on September 16, 2014 after a brief illness at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville, NY.

Services set for Betty Jean Peterson, 79

Betty Jean (Smith) Peterson, 79, a former resident of Eagle Bay and Boonville, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabil-itation Center, Boonville, while surrounded by the loving care of her family.

She was born in Nichols, PA, on July 30, 1935, a daughter of Homer and Helen Smith.  Betty grew up in Nichols, where she graduated from high school.

Later she and her family moved to Martinsburg, NY and after that she lived in the Boonville area on Lachausse Road for many years, Hayes Road West, and then on 4th Lake, at Eagle Bay.   Continue reading

Service set for Dorothy B. Sponable, 103

Dorothy B. Sponable, 103, of Old Forge, died October 7, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law at Okara Lakes.

She was born August 13, 1911 in Brooklyn, NY to Albert and Marie Brussel. The family moved to Old Forge in 1919. Dorothy graduated from the Town of Webb Schools in the class of 1929 and later from Browne Business College in Brooklyn. Continue reading

VIEW: Sign up for wheel thrown pottery classes

Marie Imundo, pottery instructor at View, will instruct a pottery class that will meet on Mondays from October 27 through December 1 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The classes are perfect for those individuals who have never taken a pottery class before or for those interested in taking their skills to the next level.

Beginners will work on building fundamental skills. More experienced students will continue to build on those skills.   Continue reading

Annual Kids Day in Inlet celebrates Adirondack activities

Adirondack Kids Day, an Inlet event that celebrates the outdoor activities described in the Adirondack Kids series of books by authors Gary and Justin VanRiper, was enjoyed by children of all ages on Saturday, October 4th.

The day of family fun, co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks, included a demonstration of birds of prey, a slide on Wildlife in the Adirondacks, horseback riding, and a petting zoo featuring the animals of the local Moose River Farm. Continue reading
