Annual Kids Day in Inlet celebrates Adirondack activities

Adirondack Kids Day, an Inlet event that celebrates the outdoor activities described in the Adirondack Kids series of books by authors Gary and Justin VanRiper, was enjoyed by children of all ages on Saturday, October 4th.

The day of family fun, co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks, included a demonstration of birds of prey, a slide on Wildlife in the Adirondacks, horseback riding, and a petting zoo featuring the animals of the local Moose River Farm.

The annual Fishing Derby, sponsored by French Louie ADK Sports and supervised by the NYS Department of Environ-mental Conservation, was held on Fifth Lake with scores of children joining in the fun.

There was face painting, a children’s book fair at the Adirondack Reader and a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking and paddling and instruction on knot tying.

NYS Forest Ranger Jennifer Temple made an appearance with Smokey Bear and Enchanted Forest Water Safari mascot Walter Safari also paid a visit.
