STELLA! Streetcar Named Desire coming to View, Monday, Aug. 5th

Pendragon Theatre's Stanley Kowalski and Blanche du BoisView’s Monday Night Theatre Series continues on August 5 with a performance of Tennessee Williams’ American classic, A Streetcar Named Desire.

The cast of Pendragon Theatre will bring the streets of New Orleans alive in Gould Hall for the play that will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Set in New Orleans, Streetcar is an enduring portrait of sex, class and secrets that takes us deep into the life of the main character Blanche du Bois, and her troubled relationship with her sister Stella, and brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski. Continue reading

Thank you for successful Inlet car show

IMG_5227The Inlet Historical Society wishes to thank the owners of those special classic cars that participated in our first annual Classis Car Cruise on Saturday July 27, and also our friends, neighbors and visitors who made this event so successful.

Thank you for your support which is very much appreciated. We are already looking to host our second annual car show in 2014, so start polishing and revving your engines for next season.

For the Girls: Upcoming fundraiser to benefit Kirsty Sutherland projects

Like many in the area, Eagle Bay summer resident Laura Lester felt a tremendous void in her life with the passing of longtime restaurateur Kirsty Sutherland last fall.

Lester became acquainted with Sutherland 14 years ago when she was hired as summer help at Kirsty’s Red Dog Tavern.

They became fast friends and continued a working and social relationship through Sutherland’s ownership of Ozzie’s Coffee Bar.

“As a business woman, she taught me so much. But she also taught me so much about being a woman in general through her no-nonsense approach, generosity, and her ability to speak her mind on a number of issues—no matter what anyone else thought,” Lester said.

Among the duo’s off-the-clock activities was attending an annual girls-only cocktail party hosted at the Barry family camp in Eagle Bay on the last Sunday in August.  Continue reading

Town of Webb Health Center Fund, Inc.

The Town of Webb Health Center Fund, Inc. held its annual meeting on Thursday, July 18th. Three new directors were elected to the board: Barbara Ball, Kay Carmichael and Joe Phaneuf.

They are taking the places of retiring board members Barbara Getty, Loretta Kaye, and Paul Rivet.

The Board wishes to welcome the new and returning members to the board and to thank the retiring members for their dedicated service to the community for the past five years.

Following the annual meeting the regular July meeting took place and a new slate officers were elected. They are: Hazel Dellavia, president; Joe Phaneuf, vice president;

Leslie Beauchamp, treasurer; and Mary Jane Lasher, secretary.

The remaining members of the Board of Directors are: Kristin Helmer, Ron Leszyk, Matt Martin, Robert Moore, Greg O’Hara, Jodelle Pross, Mike Ross, Carolyn Trimbach, and Nancy Venetz.

Advisors to the Board of Directors are Dr. Joe Rintrona, Dr. Tom Socash and Supervising Nurse Laura Cooper.

Staff members are Kathy Riehle, recording secretary and Gillian Mead, office assistant.

The Town of Webb Health Center Fund Board of Directors look forward to serving the surrounding communities for the upcoming year.

VIEW: Wildlife artist Tom Yacovella to offer talk on Sunday, August 4th

Wildlife artist Tom Yacovella will present “Nature Art: Up Close and Personal” at View on Sunday, August 4 at 2 p.m. Yacovella’s presentation is part of  View’s Science on Sundays series and is free of charge.

Yacovella’s work is based on real-life drama he witnesses in the field. Through his art and teaching, he shares stories which range from natural wariness to intimate moments of courting and parenting.

Graveside service set for John M. Turco, 55

John M. Turco, 55, passed away unexpectantly on July 30, 2013 in Paramus, NJ. He was a graduate of Paramus High School. Born August 10, 1957, John worked many years at Shop Rite Supermarkets in New Jersey. He moved to the Adirondacks and recently purchased a home in Okara Lakes.

John is survived by his loving sisters Loraine (Fred) Fridella and Ruthann (Jeff) Page and brother Charles (Mimma) Turco. He was predeceased by his parents Elenor and Salvatore Turco and his brother Sal Turco.

John recently lost his soulmate, Joceyln Lindsey of Old Forge.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as Joceyln’s children: Samantha, Kyle and Tommy Lindsey of Old Forge.

Arrangements are made through Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home of Old Forge.

Interment will be held Saturday, August 3 at 2:30 p.m., at Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge.

Inlet Library sets Ice Cream Social, Aug. 4

An Ice Cream Social will be held at the Inlet Public Library on Sunday, August 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is hosted by the library board in thanks to the community and visitors for their support.
