Close to 80 friends of the late Kirsty Sutherland came attired in cowboy boots and sunflower accents to the Eagle Bay Park home of John and Deb Barry on Sunday, August 23 to honor Kirsty’s memory and raise money for her namesake culinary scholarship fund and Eagle Bay beautification projects.

An All-Girls Cocktail Party, the third annual gathering to honor the memory of the late Kirsty Sutherland, will be held at the Eagle Bay Park camp of Deb and John Barry on Sunday, August 23 from 6 p.m.
The party, at 127 Eagle Point Rd., will include cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of Kirsty’s signature appetizers. There will also be raffles. In honor of Kirsty, this year’s theme is sunflowers and cowboy boots and party-goers are asked to dress accordingly. Continue reading

Sara Dempsey, a senior at the Town of Webb School, was recently awarded the Kirsty Sutherland Scholarship for Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship through the Community Scholarship Fund and the Sutherland family.

Like many in the area, Eagle Bay summer resident Laura Lester felt a tremendous void in her life with the passing of longtime restaurateur Kirsty Sutherland last fall.
Lester became acquainted with Sutherland 14 years ago when she was hired as summer help at Kirsty’s Red Dog Tavern.
They became fast friends and continued a working and social relationship through Sutherland’s ownership of Ozzie’s Coffee Bar.
“As a business woman, she taught me so much. But she also taught me so much about being a woman in general through her no-nonsense approach, generosity, and her ability to speak her mind on a number of issues—no matter what anyone else thought,” Lester said.
Among the duo’s off-the-clock activities was attending an annual girls-only cocktail party hosted at the Barry family camp in Eagle Bay on the last Sunday in August. Continue reading
