Old Forge Camera Club welcomes Nancie Battaglia

Photographer Nancie Battaglia

Professional photographer Nancie Battaglia, of Lake Placid, presented an informational talk and slide show to the members of the Old Forge Camera Club at its May meeting.

“Her slide shows were both eye-opening and educational, giving those present, a view of what it means to be a working professional photographer. Her ability to capture the fast action of winter sports events is truly remarkable, and her vision of life in the Adirondacks tells a story to the world of what it is like to live here. She is truly an ‘Adirondack Treasure,’” said Camera Club member Culleen Dolittle. Continue reading

AYSO says thank you

On behalf of Old Forge AYSO, I would like to thank the Old Forge Fire Department and the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari for their donations towards our area’s youth soccer program.

Without generous organizations and businesses like their’s, AYSO’s registration fees and operating expenses would have increased.

I would also like to thank the Town of Webb North Street Maintenance Department and the Town of Webb School for all their help and support throughout the AYSO fall and spring season. Continue reading

View will be offering a number of instructional workshops over the summer, including a series of upcoming basketry workshops which will be led by Barbara Green of Green House Basketry in Old Forge.

Green, who formerly operated Head First Hair Salon, learned basket making herself at an Arts Center class a few years ago.

“When I took my first basket class at the Arts Center, it opened a door for me into another dimension of creativity and design, which I’ve done all my life. It’s a different medium, but I’m still working with my hands. It was just kind of a natural flip,” she said.

At her first class on June 30, Green will teach students how to make an Adirondack Bike Basket, a basket of her own design. Continue reading

Empire Girls State delegates who were selected from the Town of Webb School this year are  Kathryn Connell, Lauren Holt, Alexandria McCumber, and Alexandria Haehl.

They will attend the 2012 session of the American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State at the SUNY Brockport campus from June 24 to June 30th.

The students were nominated based on qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, cooperation and maturity.

The final selection was made after each nominee was interviewed by the local American Legion Auxiliary Unit.

Empire Girls’ State is a “think camp” about the government process and the Constitution. During the one week session, they will build the government of a mythical 51st state, from the local level up to the state level, while participating in campaigns, rallies, speeches, platforms and various legislative committees, in addition to creating bills. Thank you Inlet flower planting volunteers

Some of Inlet’s Hanging Basket volunteers were, from left, Margie O’Hara, Patty Wittmeyer, and Charlie Herr.

The Town of Inlet Beautification Committee would like to give a Special Thanks to those that met on Tuesday, June 5th at Arrowhead Park to plant the gorgeous hanging baskets throughout the Town and Park.

This event has been taking place for well over 22 years. The project was started by Inlet resident Marylee Kalil, who due to her love of plants, has brought beauty to the Town throughout the summer season.

The plants were purchased from local businesses Zone 3 and Pedals and Petals, and planting materials were purchased from Inlet Department Store/ACE Hardware, making this a true community supported effort.

A Special Thanks goes to Margie O’Hara, Nancy Jennings, Adele Burnett, Charlie Herr, Reggie and Paul Chambers, Jason Pallotta and Mitch Lee for planting, watering and hanging the baskets. Nancy Jennings has volunteered to do the daily watering, but volunteers are always welcomed to join in and help her at anytime.

Patty Wittmeyer, Inlet

Town of Inlet Beautification Committee Member
