Inlet acquires coveted underwater rights of long-deceased James Galvin

Sewer District continues forth thanks to $33,000 lakebed purchase

The Town of Inlet Board passed a resolution Tuesday, announcing the purchase of a number of plots, pieces or parcels of underwater land from the heirs of James Galvin—a decidedly tricky transferrance, but one that was necessary as a result of the formation of Sewer District #1 in the Town of Inlet.

In short—if there is such a thing in a case like this—the grant funding process for Inlet’s sewer project requires certain aspects of land ownership and rights to be documented and precise.

Specifically, easements and ownership must be established for each piece of property which will be served by the sewer plant.

This includes lands and lakebeds where the sewer plant will be located.

The assessment records show that multiple parcels which contain the lakebeds under Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Limekiln Lakes are owned by the State of New York.

That’s according to Inlet Assessor Tim Durkin, who has been active in the research process. Continue reading

More than 40 vendors displayed their products—from hot tubs to wood-fired pizza ovens—at the Adirondack Camp & Home Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 8, 9, and 10, at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center. Approximately 400 people attended the show, according to Bill Brooker, organizer of the annual show.

“Considering the state of our economy the turnout was good, and the vendors were happy with the sales they made during the show,” Brooker said.

Brooker cited the generator vendor as having sold five generators during the show, and the North Country Storage made connections with customers on four sheds.

Empire Masonry Heaters sold a few of their featured portable wood-fired outdoor heaters and pizza ovens, including one commercial unit, he added.

“So, overall, I’m happy with it. The show did what I wanted it to do. It got people involved with other people, so they can get their services and their needs filled,” Brooker said.

Town of Webb Board considers changes to Paddlefest contract

The Town of Webb Board discussed an extension of the contract period of Paddlefest, an outdoor kayak and canoe expo held annually at Old Forge’s lakefront, to three years from its current one-year, at the request of John Nemjo, owner of Mountainman Outdoor Supply Co., which conducts the event.

All board members stated support for the event, but at least two, Councilwomen Kate Russell and Mary Brophy-Moore, said they were hesitant about committing to a three-year contract.

Councilwoman Russell noted the continual growth of the event, which she said could compel some changes to the contract before a scheduled three-year renewal. Continue reading
