Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks Pedraza, Yuhasz: Students of Year honorees

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks and the Town of Webb Police Benevolent Association (PBA) recognized Gabriella Pedraza and Burt Yuhasz as the Town of Webb Students of the Year for 2011/12 at a recent Recognition Event.

Gabriella is the daughter of Victor and Maria Pedraza of Old Forge and Burt is the son of Steven Yuhasz for Forestport.

Gabriella and Burt are Seniors at Town of Webb Union Free School in Old Forge.Ray Schoeberlein, Kiwanis past president and committee chairperson, presented a certificate and a check for $500 to Gabriella; and Kevin Birtle, president of the Police Benevolent Association presented a certificate and a check for $500 to Burt.

The students made brief presentations regarding their future plans after receiving their awards.

Key Club Advisor Diane Amos noted that Gabriella contributed 157 volunteer hours of community service this year and Burt volunteered 135 hours.

Ray and Kevin extended their sincere appreciation to Town of Webb School Superintendent Rex Germer; Guidance Counselor Kandis Griffin; Advisor Diane Amos; and the entire Town of Webb School administration for all their effort and cooperation in the student recognition program.

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks, with the cooperation of the Town of Webb Union Free School, initiated the Student of the Month/Year recognition program in the school year 2007/2008, for senior students at the school.

Each month from September to April the school administrators selected a Student of the Month who receives an Award Certificate and $50, and with their parents were invited to a Kiwanis Recognition Event meeting to make a brief presentation.

Students of the month for the 2011/2012 school year were: September, Taylor Payne; October, Alexandra Levi; November, Jessica Hannah; December, Caitlin Bailey; January, Gabriella Pedraza; February, Mallory Kleps; March, Andrea Frey; and April, Bert Yuhasz.
