Adirondack League Club: New York State Comptroller DiNapoli tours Cornell fish hatchery during recent visit

As part of his visit to the Central Adirondacks, Adirondack Landowners Association President Tom Williams invited New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to tour the Cornell Fish Hatchery to witness firsthand the efforts of public-private partnerships in the Adirondacks.

Heading the operation, which was first started by former Cornell University Professor, Doctor Mark Webster, are Cliff Kraft and Dan Josephson who are assisted by both graduate and undergraduate students as well as interns and seasonal employees.

For 60 years, participants in the Adirondack Fishery Research Program, through the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University, have been collecting invaluable data on a variety of fish at the Little Moose Field House in the Adirondack League Club. Continue reading

Town of Webb School: Synthetic drugs topic of community talk

Parents and any community member associated with children in the Town of Webb School District are invited to attend an informational night regarding synthetic marijuana and synthetic cocaine/ PCP.

The presentation will be held Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. in the school’s vocal chorus room.

An explanation of the drugs, their legality, signs of use, how to get help, and current trends will be among the topics that will be discussed at the session.

Town of Webb UFSD Spring Choral Concert set May 30 for Jr./Sr. chorus

The Town of Webb School’s Vocal Music Department will present its annual Spring Choral Concert on Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

The concert will feature both Junior Chorus and the Senior Chorus performing songs currently topping the charts as well as classic favorites from past decades.

Included on the program are “Born This Way,” “Your Song,” “Bubbly,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Someone Like You,” “Hey There Delilah,” “Hey, Soul Sister,” and “A Tribute to Queen.” Continue reading

IABA: Inlet business group meets to discuss future events

Members of the Inlet Area Business Association (IABA) met at the Big Moose Inn on Thursday, May 17 for a social gathering and to discuss the organization’s upcoming events and future activities.

The IABA’s goals include the creation of business related activities that will help draw visitors to the Inlet area.

The organization, though not in the event planning business, supports events that benefit the area. An example of their work is the upcoming Black Fly Challenge, which is being run by the Adirondack Mountain Bike Association. Continue reading

Webb elementary chorus presenting concert June 1

The Town of Webb School’s Vocal Music Department will present the Elementary Spring Choral Concert on Friday, June 1 at 12:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

Students in grades kindergarten through fifth, under the direction of Vocal Music teacher Valerie Gaudin, will showcase the songs of one of the few uniquely American art forms—the Broadway musical.

Inlet school invites all to spring concert, graduation

The Inlet Common School will present their first spring choral concert on Thursday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church Hall.

The students will be under the direction of music and art teacher, Gwen Tracy-Deuss.

The concert will feature a production of “Pirates!” and students in grades kindergarten to sixth grade will be participating. Britney Levi is cast as the stowaway, Laura Levi is the Captain, and Shawn Hansen is the King of the High C’s. Continue reading
