Spring service planned for Margaret Mercier, 92

Margaret Mercier passed from this life into the loving arms of her already waiting husband, Eddy Mercier, on November 16, 2011.

Margaret was born in Burlington, Vermont on June 24, 1919. She was 92 years young.

She and Eddy came to the Adirondacks in 1967. Continue reading

Kiwanis and Strand Theatre to offer free kids movie

The Kiwanis Club’s Bob Thayer Memorial Free Holiday Movie for Kids is set for Saturday, December 17 at the Strand Theatre in Old Forge.

Children ages 12 and under are admitted to the movie free of charge when accompanied by an adult who will also be admitted free. This year’s featured film will be “Alvin and The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.” Continue reading

Tips to keep you, your family and your home safe during holidays by Jason Pallotta

Area fire departments had a quiet month of November. The Old Forge Fire Department responded to a call-a possible structure fire in McKeever-which turned out to be an electrical problem.

As far as EMS personnel goes, they were fairly busy considering it is the “off” season.

A big thanks to all the EMTs, paramedics, and ambulance drivers!

But now that we are into December and busy decking the halls for the holiday season, we should all be fire smart-especially when it comes to Christmas trees.

I would like to share a few facts with you regarding the subject.

Old Forge Hardware edges closer to fundraising goal; proceeds to benefit the local food pantries

The Old Forge Hardware has been selling soup can tags as a fundraising effort for the food pantries at Niccolls Memorial and St. Bartholomew’s Churches.

The Hardware Store has pledged to match donations up to $500 with all proceeds to benefit the food pantries.

So far $388 has been collected, which leaves them just $112 away from their goal that will ultimately translate into a $1,000 donation to the cause. Continue reading

MAC’s Safe Ride sets schedule

MAC’s Safe Ride, a late night transportation service available in the Old Forge area, is in operation Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

MAC’s provides transportation for those who find themselves in a situation where they need a safe late night ride home.

Anyone in need of the service can call (315) 369-8121.

Christmas on Main Street committee says thanks for great weekend

The Christmas On Main Street Committee, along with the Central Adirondack Association, would like to express their gratitude to all those who were involved in making this year’s event the largest to date.
