Town of Webb board authorizes legal action against owners of non-compliant property

Following a brief discussion at the Town of Webb Board Meeting on September 13, the Board voted unanimously to authorize and direct Supervisor Robert Moore and Town Attorney Richard Frye to take action against a property owner for failure to comply with the local ordinance and state fire prevention and building code.

The action involves commencing with a legal proceeding in New York State Supreme Court of Herkimer County.

The offending property is located on Grove Trail and owned by Mark and Therese Frateshi , according to Attorney Frye.

The proceedings were prompted following months-long complaints to the Webb Code Enforcement Office by area property owners.

It was alleged that the Frateshis were violating local ordinance and state code by using a bunkhouse as a residence.

Following an investigation by Town of Webb Code Enforcement Officer Andy Getty, a notice of violation was issued directing the property owners to cease and requiring them to correct the violations within thirty days.

Subsequently the Town of Webb Code Enforcement office has determined that corrections have not been made, according to Frye.

The passage of the resolution by the Town Board allows the immediate initiation of legal action, Frye said.

Outside the Box A Look at Webb Sports

Varsity girls win 9-0: Dave Leach’s team plays tight D, shows range of scoring options in soccer season opener.

The way I see it, there are two kinds of people, and a good part of what defines them is the way in which they look at life.

There are those that find themselves stuck in the past, constantly fretting about what might have been, or becoming depressed over the passing of time.

On the other hand, we have the eternal optimist. The person who can appreciate what has been, but always keeps an eye on the future.

Count me among the latter.

Yeah, seeing the last of summer does kinda suck. And make no mistake, I’d rather undergo a full body-waxing than deal with the six months of crap weather that are looming.

Rather than focusing on the joys of shoveling snow, however, I’m directing my attention toward our local Columbus Day festivities, followed by Thanks-giving and Christmas with my family.

And in that same spirit of looking ahead, why don’t we take a quick gander at the upcoming school sports scene, along with some early results… Continue reading

Polar Bear Ski Club submits revised McCauley Mtn. plan to Town Board

Group decides that single yurt would suffice, save money for town and ski clubs

Polar Bear Ski Club representative William Hollister spoke to the Town of Webb Board last Tuesday at the board’s monthly meeting, to give an update to a presentation he given on the club’s behalf last month.

The Polar Bears had proposed that two yurts be erected at McCauley Mountain, which is owned by the Town of Webb.

That plan has changed, according to Hollister.

To ease costs to the participating ski clubs and to the Town of Webb, Hollister said the Polar Bear committee has decided to scale the effort back, at least initially, to a single yurt.

Hollister also said the town’s McCauley Mountain Committee is involved in creating a plan for the chalet, and that the Polar Bears felt it appropriate to take a modest approach and allow that committee to do its thing before proposing anything major.

“With the McCauley Mountain Committee working towards the development of the lodge, and helping the lodge get better, we all decided that we had better slow down and not try to rush into anything permanent at this time,” Hollister said.

“[We decided] that we should instead work with the McCauley Mountain Committee and the Town to better McCauley down the road, and to do it right… So we decided to team up and go with one yurt,” he said.

Through a donation of a heating unit, the Polar Bears are now capable of heating and maintaining the yurt on their own, which would effectively lower the overall cost to the town to no more than $3,000. Continue reading
