Local 9/11 Memorial Service held at St. Bartholomew’s Church

A Community Memorial Service in observance of the 9/11 tragedies, was held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 11.

Attending the solemn ceremony in memory of the nearly 3,000 people who perished in the terriorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001, were members of American Legion Post #893, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Old Forge and Inlet Police Departments, the Fire Departments of Old Forge, Eagle Bay, the Central Adirondack Search & Rescue Team (CASART) and the Knights of Columbus.

Fr. Shane Lynch, pastor of St. Bartholomew’s and St. Anthony’s Churches, wearing his Chaplain’s uniform from the Watertown Fire Department, presided over the ceremony.

He was assisted by Deacon Ron St. Marie of St. Bartholomew’s and St. Anthony’s Churches, and Robin Dwyer, pastor the Church of the Lakes in Inlet.

During the ceremony, Tony Tormey of the Old Forge Fire Department rang a bell on the altar, as Father explained that it was the customary ritual announcing the death of a fireman and a signal that he or she has returned to a higher station.

Prayers and Readings were offered during the service, which concluded with a period of absolute silence as a rolling list of the names of all those who died on 9/11 was projected on the altar wall.
