Ed Girtler honored as founding member of child protection program

Safe Inc. of Schenectady held its Annual Garden Party on Saturday evening, April 16 at George’s Market and Nursery in Latham, NY to celebrate its 30 years of existence and to honor the program’s founding members.

Edmund Girtler, Jr. of Old Forge, a retired New York State Police Investigator, was among the three individuals honored for being instrumental in developing the current program 30 years ago to stop sexual exploitation and human trafficking of young girls.

Girtler was presented a recognition plaque by Delores McIntosh, the first director of Safe Inc., and was also recognized by Reverend Bob Pierce, a member of the Schenectady Inner City Ministry.

“Ed’s singular effort in leading the way made this project a reality. So tonight I join with you in honoring Ed Girtler for his work in helping to insure the safety and continued protection of some of our kids that were the most vulnerable among us,” said Rev. Pierce.

Congressman Paul D. Tonko was also in attendance and presented Girtler with a certificate of special recognition for his “invaluable and outstanding service to the community.”
