Town of Webb trail system: Father of injured snowmobiler calls for better communications services

The father of a 16-year-old snowmobiler who was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident on Sunday, January 22, said he drove six hours from Long Island to address the Town of Webb Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday the 14th.

Phil Fortuna said that when his son ran his sled into a tree near Rondaxe, he was frustrated at not being able to use his cell phone to contact help.

He was faced with the tough decision of staying to comfort his son, who was unresponsive, or leaving him to find help.

Fortuna said he mounted his sled and drove about a mile and a half before encountering a trail grooming vehicle. Continue reading →

Equalization rate nearly 100% in Inlet; no revaluation needed, assessor says

Tim Durkin, Town of Inlet Assessor, has announced that the preliminary equalization rate for the town is currently at 99.08 percent, and that there is no need for Inlet to conduct a revaluation.

Durkin said that the last time Inlet had a revaluation done was in 2008.

“The equalization rate is something the state does. It is basically the ratio of the assessed value, divided by the full market value of all of the properties in town, which would be commercial, residential, vacant land, and state owned land,” Durkin said. Continue reading →

March 1st in Gould Hall–VIEW Event: Pendragon Theatre to perform ‘To Kill a Mockingbird

Pendragon Theatre production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” will be presented at View in Old Forge on Thursday, March 1st.

Based on the classic novel by Harper Lee and the1962 movie adaption starring Gregory Peck, the plot revolves around racial injustice in an Alabama town during the Depression.

The story is told through the perspective of eight-year old “Scout” whose father, Atticus, a lawyer, defends a young Negro wrongfully accused of a crime.

Cast as Atticus is Robert Pettee, who played the role of the lunatic Renfield in Pendragon’s production of Dracula in the first theatre production at View’s Gould Hall last March. Continue reading →

Regional economy focus of CAMP project

Representatives from five Adirondack townships and Herkimer and Oneida Counties have been meeting approximately every three weeks since late November to develop the framework for a regional marketing plan with the intent to revitalize and support the local economy.

The Central Adirondacks Marketing Partnership (CAMP) project includes participants from Forestport, Indian Lake, Inlet, Long Lake and Webb and is being coordinated through the Central Adirondack Association (CAA) and CAP-21. Continue reading →

Town of Webb school skiers named to state championship teams

The Town of Webb Girls and Boys Alpine Ski Teams were crowned Section III Champions following two days of competition at Song Mountain on February 14 and 15.

At the end of the competition, the State Championship teams were announced

It was bittersweet as this year Section III decided that only seven racers (each girls and boys) as opposed to the usual 12 racers would be named to the team.

With that in mind, it was important to be Section Champs as that allowed for an extra person to be added to the team. Continue reading →
