Webb students participate in county government intern program

Six Town of Webb UFSD students were among the twenty-three high school students representing seven Herkimer County high schools participating in the 4-H Government Intern Program at the Herkimer County Legislative Chambers this fall.

Chloe Brosemer, Vicky Franco, Rebecca Sessions, Westley Lamphear, Jessica Norrs, and Casey Hamlin joined students from Central Valley, Herkimer, Dolgeville, Mount Markham, Frankfort Schuyler, and West Canada Valley High Schools for four sessions of programs that provided them with insight on the legislative process.

Throughout the sessions students reviewed issues, toured county facilities, interviewed county legislators and attended a county legislature meeting.  Continue reading

Webb students welcome local veterans at school forum

veteransIn recognition of Veterans Day, Town of Webb School students in grades 4th, 5th, and 7th invited local veterans to discuss their military experiences in an open forum on  Tuesday, November 10th.

In attendance were Sgt. Kermizian (Army), Sgt. Roger Best (Air Force), Lt. Michael Mitchell (Army), and Cpl. John Weedmark (Marines).

Veterans began the forum by discussing their experiences in the military and what being a veteran meant to them.  Continue reading

Webb students tops in BOCES math challenge

5th grade mathTown of Webb UFSD fifth grade students recently competed against 43 math classes in the Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Onieda BOCES in an online math challenge.

Over six days students answered over one thousand math questions at their math level and the class with the best accuracy and total points won.

The students banded together as a team and pulled out the victory bringing home the BOCES SumDog Math Challenge award.

All students placed within the top 60 students with 403 students competing BOCES-wide.

Four Town of Webb students placed in the top 10 in the competition: R. Laporte (5th), C. Basile (6th), R. Kelley (7th), and D. Aliasso (9th).

Students will be competing in local and national contests throughout the year.

Webb students perform at Bi-County Music Fest

Nine Town of Webb School instrumental and vocal students performed in the Fall Bi-County Music Festival at Lafargeville Central School on Saturday, November 7th.

Instrumental students Natalie Brownsell, Julie Brosemer, Emily Rudolph, and Jens Bartel played in the Junior High Band, and Olivia Phaneuf played first tenor in the High School Jazz Ensemble. They are all students of Emily Herrmann.

Karleigh Hollister, Natalie Herron, Jameson Pratt, and Clifford Donovan, students of Valerie Gaudin, sang in the Elementary Chorus.

Students attended an all-day music rehearsal earlier in the week in preparation for Saturday’s public performance. The top music students from Jefferson and Lewis Counties (with Town of Webb participating alongside) are selected for these honor groups.
