Following is Superintendent Rex Germer’s Report from the Town of Webb Union Free School District’s Board of Education meeting held on October 21st. The regular capsule summary of the meeting, along with Principal Swick’s Report appear on Page 15.

New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia is going to be looking for feedback regarding the Common Core from various constituent groups.

The feedback will be in the form of specific comments/concerns as they relate to individual standards and the grade at which they are put in place.  Continue reading →

Town of Webb Students spearhead bullying awareness campaign

Town of Webb computer technology and English teacher Megan Pfeifer has been working nearly three weeks with her eighth-graders in preparing for national “Stomp-out Bullying Day” on Monday, October 5th.

Looking to Flourish: School district seeks to strengthen broader community by partnering with Webb Town Board

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, September 15, where it took actions that have been summarized by the district, with Board approval, as follows. (These do not represent approved minutes.)

The Board reviewed the following information:

a. Annual Review of Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) – informational only

b. Board Policy 500 – Student Attendance

c. Board Policy 505 – Code of Conduct (Reviewed August 18, 2015 with Public Hearing)

Town of Webb UFSD science teacher Danielle Harmer and her Science Club members in grades 9 through 12 conducted an Egg Drop on Tuesday, September 15th.

The students’ assignment was to build a contraption that would allow an egg to drop from the second story of the school—an approximate 32 feet—without breaking or cracking.

Miss Harmer said most students worked in pairs or groups, and out of seven groups all but two eggs survived the plunge without a crack.

Principal John Swick stopped by to witness the second annual event.

John Cahill Scholarship Fund aiding Town of Webb school golf program

The new John Cahill Memorial Scholar-ship Fund announced a series of new initiatives designed to support students throughout the area.

The new fund which is supported by The Ted Classic golf tournament at Inlet Golf Club is a partner with the Town of Webb Community Scholarship Fund.

Rob Budetti, one of the organizers of The Ted Classic, recently awarded the John Cahill Memorial Scholarship to Nicole Redpath, a 2015 graduate of Town of Webb, at Thendara Golf Club.  Continue reading →

Town of Webb UFSD announces perfect attendance honorees

The Town of Webb Union Free School District has announced its list of students who are being recognized for achieving perfect attendance for the 2014–15 school year.

A statement from the district said, “Regular attendance to school and class is important to student success; this recognition is the school’s attempt to share with the students and their family’s commendation of their joint efforts in this regard.” Continue reading →
