Principal’s ReportMr. John Swick submitted the following information:

We joined schools across the country on Friday, 9/11/15 as we took time to recognize the men and women that defend our country every day and to remember those who gave their life for our country.

Thank you to Author Susan Kiesel for donating a copy of her new book to each of our new kindergarten students.

Our new teachers are racing at the Community Go Kart tournament tonight and will be in attendance at the next BOE meeting.

I am currently meeting with each teacher of students with 3-8 ELA and Math scores to go over results and set goals for students for next year.

Our fire drills for the year have started and we will have 8 during the fall and 4 in the spring.

Our bus drills for K-12 have taken place within the first days of school. Buster the Bus came to visit our K-3 students!

Seniors Privileges have been approved, signed, distributed to teachers and are in place for the year.

Our College Now teachers attended training today at HCCC to be updated on the courses that they teach for college credit to our students.

Mrs. Amos invited Mr. Luther and myself into her Study Skills classroom to educate 6th and 7th graders about the Athletic Code and Academic Probation Eligibility.

I would like to give my condolences to the Winslow/Gaige Family.

Superintendent’s ReportMr. Rex Germer included the topics:

The beginning of the year is in full swing. We are seeing great things happening already this year. There are lots of new faces from the Staff to the Kindergarten class and all of the other new students who have joined us this year.

We look forward to working together as we continue to navigate the year and all of the opportunities that are available to us.

Just a reminder that the school has three full-time personnel that are in house counseling/support resources and who are available to our students and parents/guardians throughout the year. Brendan McGrath, Kandis Griffin and Mary Starring can all be contacted if a student needs to talk with somebody or if a parent/guardian needs help with their student.

We also can offer referrals to other professionals as needed and hope to have some remote services available through BOCES soon.

The District is reaching out to other agencies and elected officials on behalf of our school and community in an effort to secure local availability of resources we see a need for.

These include professional counseling and evaluation services as well as substance abuse supports.

Currently there is a shortage of mental health professionals nationwide which has limited the hiring ability of the hospital services.

We will continue to work on behalf of our students to make more services accessible here.

These services are not a luxury but a need and we should be supported and serviced well considering the economic generator this region is in terms of tax revenue.

A meeting has been established with the Town Board to strengthen communication and partnership between the Town Board and the District.

Our region deserves to flourish and not just survive. Together we will have to advocate, plan, budget and be willing to make important decisions about infrastructure, regional needs, shared services, partnerships and advocacies while presenting ourselves as a unified regional voice working to better the place we are lucky enough to call home…a place many more people would like to call home if provided with opportunities to support themselves both locally and through telecommuting enabled employment while their student(s) are educated within our District.

The portable lights will be paid by the school for our Columbus Day Tournament. We have secured all teams necessary to fill the tournament schedules.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.
