Unfortunate way to enter the holidays

To the Superintendent and Board of Education of Inlet Common School:

As I’m sure the Board has anticipated, I’ll have to tender my resignation from the part-time teaching position at the Inlet Common School in the wake of my daughter Gwen’s sudden termination at the school.

For me to remain would surely cause a distraction for the students, and would be awkward for myself and everyone else who is involved. Continue reading

McCauley chalet construction could have been handled in better fashion

I read with interest, in the December 17, 2013 Adirondack Express, the Town of Webb Board’s comments on the renovations at McCauley Mountain’s Chalet.

Specifically that they “…be positive and open-minded about the change and embrace it.” It seems to me that the Board is not completely confident in the changes they authorized.

By the way, I have been operating the Café and Tavern at McCauley Mountain for 16 years, and was unaware that the construction was to happen.

It had been discussed between the mountain manager and me, and I was under the impression nothing was planned.

Imagine my surprise when I went to the Chalet and it was done!

Out of respect to me and my staff, it would have been decent if someone on the Board had contacted me on my input and the effects it would have on my business.

I suggest someone on the Board read the lease I have with the Town of Webb.

Happy Holidays,

Nick Bankert,

Old Forge

A fond farewell from the Walley Family

An open letter to the community:

On behalf of the Walley family, I would like to take this opportunity to express our love, admiration, and heartfelt thanks to the entire community.

As some of you may have already heard, we are relocating to Jefferson, Georgia. Naturally, such a move carries with it a sense of anticipation and excitement. At the same time, however, we also feel a considerable measure of sadness and loss.

Our connection to this area goes back four generations, starting with my grandparents. Then, twenty years ago, having dreamed of making the Adirondacks our permanent home for quite some time, Sue and I decided to take the plunge. It was, to be sure, one of the best decisions we have ever made.   Continue reading

Forestport Town Board played no role in reducing the Highway Dept. budget

Open Letter to the Town of Forestport Taxpayers

I am Bill Gardner, Highway Superintendent for the Town of Forestport. Over the past few months I have been stabbed in the back and thrown under the rug by Parker Snead.

Now that it is election time he wants to make out that everything is good—WRONG! Parker Snead is the biggest hypocrite that has ever been put on a pair of shoes. He has no managerial experiences and relies on others to make himself look good.  Continue reading

Kudos to Forestport Planning Board

An Open Letter to Board Members of the Town of Forestport:

On June 11, 2012, my wife and I had the opportunity to attend a Forestport Planning Board Meeting. This letter is to express our sincere gratitude for the outstanding job both Brad Smith and Kim Kratzenberg displayed at that meeting.

They acted in a very professional manner dealing with all the cases that were scheduled to be heard, including a reappearance of a business owner, who needed to provide prior requested documents. Other current businesses and proposed business cases were also presented. Continue reading
