Paige Schweinsberg seeks title of Miss Teen Rodeo New York

Paige Schweinsberg of Old Forge will vie for the title of Miss Teen Rodeo New York in a pageant that will be held Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7 at the Heritage Hall of the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The mission of the pageant is to select quality role models of integrity, good will and leadership to promote the western way of life and professional rodeo in New York state.

The pageant is open to contestants ages 13 to 18 and runs in tandem with the Miss Rodeo New York pageant open to young women ages 19 to 24. Continue reading →

Code Officer & Clerk of the Works: The distinct functions they serve

The Code Officer and a Clerk of the Works have similar, but very different roles. A Clerk of the Works is not the Code Officer. Nor is the Code Officer a Clerk of the Works.

The Code Officer will be working directly for the local municipality to administer the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.

Historian Richard Williams launches Eagle Bay website

Historian Richard Williams, a longtime summer resident of Eagle Bay, has developed a web site about the history of the nearly 130-year-old hamlet located in the Town of Webb.

Included on the site are current and past photographs and post cards, area maps, a history of the Eagle Bay Volunteer Hose Co., and a time line of notable events.

There was an older, popular commercial for a credit card company that depicted many things you could buy using their piece of plastic. It ends with something money can’t buy and how that experience might feel.

The Otter Lake Fire Department wants to express its gratitude to all the businesses and individuals who bought and sold our annual truck raffle tickets.

The community came through again. And when I say “community” I mean community in the broad sense that extends from the Mohawk Valley to Raquette Lake and points beyond.

MAC’s thanks volunteers for help with half marathon

On behalf of MAC’s Safe Ride, I would like to thank the following for all their help with the Old Forge Half Marathon & 5K Race held on Saturday, September 12th.

They were instrumental in the success of the race as they manned the water stations as well as cheered the racers on.

We have had summer-like weather for another week but some rain is needed or there will be a fire season this fall. A few fires have already occurred and one is currently burning  near Crane Pond in the eastern Adirondacks.

Make sure you put out all campfires and that they are cold to the touch or they may burn down into the duff and spread from there. Continue reading →
