Wayne R. Lee passes away on June 23

Wayne R. Lee, of Fanwood, NJ and Old Forge passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 23, 2014 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

He was born in Manhattan and grew up in Hempstead, Long Island.  Continue reading

Memorial service set for Thomas L. Deis, 77

Thomas L. Deis, 77, of Woodgate and formerly of Old Forge, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2014 with his family at his side at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge. In accordance with Tom’s wishes, there are no calling hours.  Continue reading

Services set for Marbeth J. Minnie, 51

A Mass for the repose of the soul of Marbeth J. Minnie, who passed away June 13, 2014, will be celebrated by Rev. Shane Lynch at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge on Monday, August 18 at 8 a.m. Interment of cremains at Riverview Cemetery will immediately follow.

Following the graveside service, the family extends an invitation to join them for a continental breakfast at their lakeside residence at 129 South Shore Road.

Old Forge Library welcoming award-winning author, Aug 19

Jennifer Donnelly, award-winning author of “A Northern Light,” will offer a presentation at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m. donnelly1

Donnelly’s  historical fiction novel is the Old Forge Library’s Centennial Celebration community read book selection that has been read by over 150 community members so far.

Based on the infamous murder of Grace Brown by Chester Gillette in Big Moose in 1906, A Northern Light won the 2004 Carnegie medal for children’s and young-adult books published in Britain.  Continue reading

Old Forge Blood Drive slated Aug. 30

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Old Forge Fire Hall at 116 Fulton St. on Saturday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The  Red Cross has an urgent need for blood and platelet donors. Donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative are especially needed.

Donors who come out to donate blood over Labor Day weekend, August 30 through September 1, will receive a Red Cross mason jar tumbler, while supplies last.
