Old Forge meeting slated: Counties assessing long-term transportation needs

The Herkimer-Oneida Counties Transportation Study (HOCTS) will hold a public meeting for the Long-Range Transportation Plan – 2035 Update for Herkimer and Oneida Counties, in Old Forge on Wednesday, August 13th.

The Long-Range Transpor-ta-tion Plan is a 20-year planning document that identifies transportation needs, regional trends and planned projects.

It provides the framework that guides regional planning, funding and implementation of transportation projects. Continue reading

Big Moose Community Chapel unveils its new historical designation marker

A marker indicating that the Big Moose Community Chapel has been listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings was unveiled on Sunday, July 27th.

Now celebrating its 83rd year, the Chapel at 1544 Big Moose Road north of Eagle Bay was listed on both the state and national registers in 2012.

The William G. Pomeroy Foundation of Syracuse provided the funds for the marker.

Webb receives county trails grant

The Town of Webb has been awarded $9,749 from Herkimer County HealthNet to support additional enhancements and improvements to the TOBIE Trail.

These funds will be utilized to install trail posts and signage that will clearly delineate the TOBIE Trail as well as stops along the trail.  Continue reading

Barnstormers slate summer picnic, Aug. 24

The Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club will hold its summer picnic on Sunday, August 24 beginning at 1 p.m. The picnic will be held at the home of George Lapinsky at 273 Big Moose Rd. in Eagle Bay.

The club will provide the main course and participants are requested to bring a dish to pass.

The picnic is open to members and their guests. RSVP is requested by calling (315) 357-4278 by August 17th.

Donation is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
