Old Forge Library welcoming award-winning author, Aug 19

Jennifer Donnelly, award-winning author of “A Northern Light,” will offer a presentation at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m. donnelly1

Donnelly’s  historical fiction novel is the Old Forge Library’s Centennial Celebration community read book selection that has been read by over 150 community members so far.

Based on the infamous murder of Grace Brown by Chester Gillette in Big Moose in 1906, A Northern Light won the 2004 Carnegie medal for children’s and young-adult books published in Britain.

In the U.S. it won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for young-adult literature and was a runner-up for the Printz Award from the American Library Association (ALA), recognizing the year’s best book for young adults.

The book appeals to readers of all ages as many will recognize the local landmarks featured on its pages.

Donnelly’s paternal great-grandparents emigrated from Dublin, Ireland to New York state and settled in the Adirondack region where her grandmother worked at a hotel on Big Moose Lake, the setting for the novel.

Her own childhood was divided between the communities of Rye and Port Leyden, NY.

Donnelly is the author of six novels and a children’s picture book.

Her books will be available for sale and signing, including her newest book, “Deep Blue: Book One of the Waterfire Saga,” published by Disney Publishing Worldwide.

The program is funded by New York State Council on the Arts: the Literature Program.
