Over 200 chili lovers stopped at View for lunch served in handmade pottery bowls at the art center’s Chili Bowl on Saturday, February 22nd. Area potters provided the vast variety of bowls filled with chili donated by 15 area restaurants for the annual fundraiser.

The artists purposely produce more bowls than needed for post-event purchasing. The bowls are currently on display at View.

The Town of Inlet hosted the 12th Annual Frozen Fire & Lights, which was once again a great success!
At Fern Park, the sledding hill was a very popular spot, and the ski trails were enjoyed by many while a nice fire was burning to keep everyone warm. The Inlet Public Library had some visitors stop in for their book sale and the Inlet Youth Commission had a very nice turnout for their Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop held at the Inlet Town Hall. Today is Wednesday, February 26th. Thirteen years ago on this day we lost my mom and truly, sometimes it feels like yesterday—other times it seems like I haven’t seen her face in a million years.
Mommy. All kinds of memories flood my dreams of that wonderful lady, and admittedly they’re not all pleasant.
Not because of her, but because of the things my siblings and I subjected her to.
My biggest crime against mommy? Making her cry.
That was huge in our house and was one of the few occasions when dad would step in and make life less than pleasant for the perp who caused his wife to shed tears. Continue reading
How do I determine the correct way to complete my W-4 so I don’t owe taxes when I file my tax returns?
Federal income taxes are collected in a “pay as you go” system. Each time income is earned, a share of the tax due should be put aside and sent into the IRS and State at least quarterly.
An employee accomplishes this through withholdings on their pay checks, a self-employed person files estimated payments.
Both types of laborers have the responsibility to ensure that the appropriate amount of taxes are being withheld or paid as they are earned.
Plus, no one wants a big tax bill due in April which will probably include penalties for under withholding of taxes due. Continue reading
A number of important issues are under discussion in Albany and development of the state budget is at the top of the list.
With just over a month to go before the April first deadline to complete work on the 2014-2015 New York State budget, the pace in Albany has started to quicken.
My goal is to adopt an on-time spending plan that meets the real needs of those who live and work in my district and across New York.
The plan needs to keep state spending in check, encourage economic growth, deliver broad-based tax cuts, and drive education aid to our neediest schools. Continue reading
