Forestport an amazing community, proud to call it Home

My name is Kim Kratzenberg. I have served the Town of Forestport as its Clerk to the Planning & Codes Office for the past 18 years, as many of you know. I have always taken great pride in our Town, having been born and raised here, the daughter of Hubert and Pauline Wandover.

After graduation, my husband Bob and I married and chose to stay in the Town of Forestport to live and raise our sons, Bob and Kyle, and to earn livings and invest our hard earned money.

We believe in this Town.

I support Parker Snead for Supervisor

We fast are approaching election day on November 5th and as we all must, I have to make a decision on who I will vote for in this watershed election for our town.

Parker has a vision for Forestport. He has shared this vision and his ideas during his campaign, and as importantly, he continues to demonstrate the desire, knowledge and energy needed to deal with the pressing issues confronting our town. Continue reading

Herkimer County conducting health issues survey

Herkimer County HealthNet is currently conducting a survey of Herkimer County residents regarding community health issues in the region.

The survey, which is being conducted by the SUNY Potsdam Institute for Applied Research, will take place through November 30th.

Questions about health care coverage, access to preventative health care, access to dental care, and frequency of healthy behaviors will be asked.

The survey will be completely anonymous. Continue reading

Hasenauer’s actions hurt Forestport taxpayers

Letter to the voters of Forestport:

I have read with disbelief that Bill Hasenauer lists as an accomplishment that he removed an assessor who was overvaluing property.

Normally I stay away from Assessor comments after being an Assessor, County Director and Certified General Appraiser for over 35 years.

But let me set the town folks straight as to what really happened in Forestport.

Bill was the one that made the resolution to do another revaluation which would keep the equalization high in order to keep county and school taxes as fair as possible.

After the work was all done—and it is a great deal of work—he and his two new councilmen on the board decided they did not want to have to pay their fair share of taxes nor did they want a few close friends to have to pay their fair share of taxes.  Continue reading

Free legal assistance available to Herkimer County seniors

The Herkimer County Office for the Aging, in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Mid-York, Inc., offers free legal services for individuals ages 60 and over who reside in Herkimer County.

Legal Aid is able to provide assistance with Power of Attorney, wills, health care proxies, living wills, landlord/tenant disputes and consumer and credit problems.

Individuals who have questions or are interested in being referred to the Legal Aid Society for assistance should contact the Herkimer County Office for the Aging at (315) 867-1124.
