Free legal assistance available to Herkimer County seniors

The Herkimer County Office for the Aging, in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Mid-York, Inc., offers free legal services for individuals ages 60 and over who reside in Herkimer County.

Legal Aid is able to provide assistance with Power of Attorney, wills, health care proxies, living wills, landlord/tenant disputes and consumer and credit problems.

Individuals who have questions or are interested in being referred to the Legal Aid Society for assistance should contact the Herkimer County Office for the Aging at (315) 867-1124.

The Legal Aid Society of Mid-York also offers a toll-free Legal Helpline to assist people who need help with civil legal problems.

Some legal issues which the Legal Helpline covers are housing, special education, public benefits, domestic violence, disability discrimination, unemployment benefits and several others.

The Legal Helpline can be reached 1-877-777-6152 , Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
