Webb UFSD: Parents as Partners workshop slated

The Town of Webb UFSD, in collaboration with the NRCIL/North Country Special Education Parent Center, invites parents to a Parents as Partners workshop on Tuesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the school’s Distance Learning Room.

The special education process can be complex and difficult to navigate for many families.

The Parents as Partners workshop is designed to provide tips for effective communication that can assist parents in becoming meaningful partners within the special education process and in the development of their child’s education program.

Registration is preferred as families will be provided with resource materials. Refreshments will be served.

Raquette Lake Hunters Dinner set October 26

The Raquette Lake Firehall will be the site of a Hunters Dinner on Saturday, October 26th. Members of the Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club and Raquette Lake Fire Department  will be serving a roast pork dinner with all the trimmings.

Fish & Game memberships will be available at the door as well as 50/50 raffle tickets.

Dinner starts  at 5 p.m. and ends when the food runs out. Take-outs will be available. he price is 10 for adults and $8 for kids.

Proceeds from the dinner and 50/50 raffle will support the purchase of new snowmobile signage to promote the 7th Lake Mountain Community Connector Trail.

Seward bill to help first responders purchase new emergency equipment

A state loan program to assist first responders is changing with the times under legislation sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta), and signed into law on October 22.

The legislation increases the amounts of allowable loans under the emergency services loan fund.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every time they answer an emergency call and need to be outfitted with the latest safety gear,” Seward said.   Continue reading

Kudos to Forestport Planning Board

An Open Letter to Board Members of the Town of Forestport:

On June 11, 2012, my wife and I had the opportunity to attend a Forestport Planning Board Meeting. This letter is to express our sincere gratitude for the outstanding job both Brad Smith and Kim Kratzenberg displayed at that meeting.

They acted in a very professional manner dealing with all the cases that were scheduled to be heard, including a reappearance of a business owner, who needed to provide prior requested documents. Other current businesses and proposed business cases were also presented. Continue reading

Please vote, every election is important

Well, the leaves have fallen and the air is getting cooler. Another summer has passed—I hope you had a good one.

Fall brings many things, one of them is election time. There are many local names on the ballot for the Town of Webb this year, all running unopposed. I know it seems unimportant to get out and vote when that is the case, but to the candidates—at least myself—it’s nice to see your support.

Gaffneys welcome Matthew John

baby matthewSue and Shawn Gaffney of Rochester, NY welcomed a son, Matthew John, born October 2, 2013. Matthew weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz. and measured 19.5 inches at birth. He was greeted by big sisters, Julia, almost five, and Christine, three and a half. Grandparents are Pete and Kathy Gaffney of Thendara and Bill and Mary Reifsteck of Inlet and Rochester.

Eagle Bay F.D. invites all to donation dinner

Once again, the Eagle Bay Volunteer Hose Co., Inc. is pleased to announce that on Monday, October 28, Billy’s Italian-American Restaurant, located behind Walt’s Diner on Route 28 in Old Forge, will be holding a Donation Dinner for the Eagle Bay Fire Department and will donate 20 percent of all sales (including take-outs) for that evening to our Fire Department.

Two dinner settings will be held; one from 5 from 5:30 p.m. and the other from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Reservations are appreciated and can be made by calling (315) 369-2001. Continue reading
