Old Forge: Water’s Edge Inn plans Girls’ Night Out event for April 27

Water’s Edge Inn and Conference Center in Old Forge will be the site of a 24-hour event that will offer ladies an opportunity to escape the stress of everyday life and enjoy fun with friends.

Girls Night Out will begin Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. and will feature on-site vendors and services, music and dancing, and a whole lot of female camaraderie.

Beth Tickner, conference and events coordinator of Water’s Edge, is the force behind the event.

She said she was inspired by Amy’s Slumber Party, an event hosted at the Doubletree Hotel in Syracuse by Amy Robbins, a 93Q radio host.

Now in its 10th year, the party draws upwards of 1,600 ladies for a weekend of female-bonding.

The Water’s Edge gathering will be on a much smaller scale, Tickner said.

While vendors and aesthetic service providers will be on-site, ladies can take the show down the road on Saturday night to Gigi’s Bar & Grill for food, music and dancing.

Free shuttle service will be provided by the Water’s Edge.

The cost is $200 per room or suite which includes event admission and overnight accommodations for up to four women per room/suite.

Each guest will also receive a tiara, a Girls’ Night Out wristband, a drink coupon for Gigi’s, a late-night snack, and a hot continental breakfast on Sunday.

Guests must be at least 18 years old to participate and at least 21 to consume alcohol.

Reservations can be made by calling Water’s Edge at (315) 369-2484.

More information and a listing of vendors and services is available at: watersedgeinn.com and on Facebook.

Former Town of Webb School alpine skier Chantelle Heroux is known around the area as an extreme skier. She has competed in national and international Big Mountain Races and freestyle skiing events in such locations as Lake Tahoe and New Zealand.

As a member of the local Polar Bear Ski Club, she is proud to call McCauley Mountain her home mountain and Old Forge her second home.

Heroux, the daughter of Maureen and Roger Heroux, also has a passion for skateboarding. Her love of the sport has inspired her to work with Bridge To Skate, a California-based 501(C)(3) public charity that uses skateboarding and play to aid in the creation of life skills, promotion of health, fostering peace and the education of cultural differences internationally.

Her involvement with the charitable organization has taken her to Los Laureles, a tiny community that borders Nicaragua, where she hopes to fulfill her dream of building a school.

To follow is a letter she wrote in hopes of gaining financial support of the project.

Hello,

Exhausted, I stood there. I stared at the acres of un-inhabited forests bordering the neighboring country of Nicaragua with wonder and astonishment. It is so beautiful, I can’t possibly understand how this area of the world has been forgotten.

The village has no electricity. They have no running water. They live a simple life: eating what they grow and making what they need.

As I question how I would get a single bag of cement up this monster, I tell them, “I’ll do it.” I can’t believe the words out of my mouth. Without hesitation, I clarify, “I’ll build the school.” Continue reading

Card of Thanks

The family of Cecelia Buckley is so very grateful for the tender loving care shown to her and to us over recent years by all of the Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA) personnel.

We especially want to thank Roberta Konecny, RN, and aides Linda Hippisley, Dianna Klastow, Arlene Peabody, Ruth Brussel and Diane Stefanko.

Ceil loved you all and valued your friendships. She and we are so appreciative of this service organization. Without their assistance, Ceil would not have been able to live out her life comfortably in her beloved home.

Thanks to the Herkimer County Office for the Aging and Herkimer County Alternatives for providing programs which funded her care.

We wish to thank all at Senior Network Health and the At Home Care Agency, especially Nurse Tiffany for her expertise. The end of Ceil’s life was a trying time for her. Her caregivers and the service she received provided us comfort.

Thank you Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) and staff for Ceil’s in-home care and the adult day program in Inlet, which she loved attending on Wednesdays. Karen Anderson and her staff and volunteers are wonderful.

Thanks to Community Transportation Service (CTS) and to all who volunteer to drive, especially Eileen Tobin. Ceil so enjoyed the Christmas outing.

To Dr. Socash, Dr. Webster and all the staff of the Health Center, thanks for the great care through the years. Thank you, Joanne Maly, for assisting in Ceil’s recovery from her broken arm and spirit.

Our community is so fortunate to have these services available. Our experience getting to know all of the wonderful people who staff these organizations has been a pleasure. They enriched Ceil’s life beyond expression and beyond measure. We are so appreciative.

Gratefully,

Betty Rannels, on behalf of Ceil Buckley’s family
