Alexandra Levi named October Kiwanis Student of Month

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has announced that its Student of the Month for October is Alexandra Levi.

Alexandra is the daughter to John and Thera Levi of Old Forge and is a senior at Town of Webb Union Free School in Old Forge.

The Student of the Month is a program initiated by the Kiwanis Club, in cooperation with the Town of Webb School, that recognizes senior students. Continue reading

Ste-Maries honored for charitable service

Deacon Ronald Ste-Marie of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge and St. Anthony’s Church in Inlet, and his wife Beth Ste-Marie, were honored with the Caritas Award in recognition of their outstanding service, compassion and love of humanity, during a Catholic Charities Dinner at the Grand View Restaurant in Ogdensburg on Sunday, October 16.

Their former pastor, Rev. Kevin McEwan, who nominated them for the award, introduced the couple.

Other speakers included the Most Rev. Terry LaValley, Bishop of Diocese of Ogdensburg. A number of parishoners from the Old Forge/Inlet parish attended the dinner.

Webb School Memorials honor notable contributors by Lizzie Riehle

Town of Webb School Building

This new school year, four new trees were planted outside of the Town of Webb School along with a brand new sign that was constructed out front.

There is a special story behind those four trees, and chances are if you think they are there for the Adirondack looks—then you don’t know about all of the other memorials placed in the Town of Webb Union Free School District.

Throughout the entire school there is a different story waiting somewhere to be told, yet so few people know about them.

In the past, very dedicated and influential faculty have retired; including Mr. Downey, Mr. Tracy, Mr. Allen and more.

But placed around the school are many different types of memorials in honor of various people who have made changes to the school and community in the years past. Continue reading

North Country reps support Reform NYS Conference

At a Town Hall meeting in Lowville last week, Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R, I, C-Canandaigua) and Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R, C-Black River), voiced their support for a “People’s Convention to Reform New York.”

According to Kolb, the non-partisan, grassroots effort has garnered endorsements from communities and organizations statewide, as well as from over 2,500 citizens who have signed an online petition at www.reformNY.org to voice their support of a People’s Convention. Continue reading

To the Editor: Why I Never Get Depressed

Many of you know me. I usually find humor in everything—even my health, which is not the greatest. Does it depress me? Not really.

Why?? I’m a man. And what do you expect from such a simple creature?

My last name stays put.

The garage is all mine.

Wedding plans take care of themselves.

Chocolate is just another snack.

I can never get pregnant.

I can wear a white t-shirt to a water park.

I can wear “no” shirt to a water park.

Car mechanics tell me the truth.

View to present ‘Agnes of God’ stage drama, Oct. 28

Agnes of God to be performed at View

The theatrical drama, “Agnes of God,” will be performed at View on Friday, October 28, at 7 p.m.

The Between A & B Production is directed by Bonnie Brewer of Saranac Lake, who also directed, “Mystery of Irma Vep,” a comedy farce that was recently performed at View.

“Agnes of God” was also produced as a film in 1985, starring Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft and Meg Tilly. Continue reading
