Snodeo evolves: 2011 event to include new snowmobile auction

The 35th Annual Snodeo is right around the corner and in his first year as chairman of the event, Don Haehl is looking forward to a few new additions to the weekend.

“It will be exciting, it will be neat, it will be fun,” Haehl said, “and we are hoping to bring a little something different to the weekend.”

Snodeo Weekend will begin Friday, December 9 with guests expected to arrive at the North Street Pavilion between 3 and 7 p.m. for refreshments, door prizes, raffles, and of course, to visit with the vendors.

Representatives from Arctic Cat, Polaris, Ski-Doo, and Yamaha will all be on hand throughout the weekend and, weather permitting, will be offering demo rides on a fleet of their newest model sleds throughout the day on Saturday. New to this year’s Snodeo is a Used Snowmobile Auction. The auction, which is open to vendors, dealers, and private owners alike, is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“The auction is geared more for the individual then it is to the dealers. We will have dealers there auctioning off their sleds, but we hope that we will have more private owners than vendors involved in the auction,” Haehl said.

Those who wish to put a sled up for the used snowmobile auction are asked to bring their sleds and applications to the Pavilion either between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, or before 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Haehl said there will also be some changes to the Saturday Vintage Snowmobile Show.

“We have a new guy doing the vintage sleds this year, and he is very excited about it. People can display their own vintage sleds and awards will be given out to participants,” he said.

Haehl said he and the Snodeo committee has coordinated the schedule of activities on Saturday to culminate with the final 120 cc Class Youth Race at approximately 5 p.m.

The fireworks will follow the race.

“Almost everything will be held at one location this year— which we think will be really great. Snodeo is going to be as good as it always is, but with these new twists, it should be better. We are hoping to spice it up a little and make it a little different than the past,” Haehl said.
