Adirondack Museum to present Antiques Show & Sale, Sept. 19 & 20

Central Adirondack Kiwanis celebrated its 28th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International at a special luncheon meeting held on Friday, September 4  at Van Auken’s Inne.

Special guest was Town of Webb School Principal John Swick who offered a presentation on his involvement with the development of an orphanage that will house 400 children in Guadalupe, Mexico. 

John, his wife, and son have traveled to Mexico for several years with a group they have recruited to work with Tapestries of Life Ministries and Inlet Community Church to assist with construction of the orphanage.

John described the urgent need for the facility and encourages others to participate and donate to the project.

Central Adirondack Kiwanis was chartered on September 30, 1987.

At present there are 33 regular members and two honorary members.

Over the years Central Adirondack Kiwanis has been awarded eight Distinguished Club awards, three Inter club awards and seven Governor’s awards.

In the program year 2013/14 member’s contributed 2,108 hours.

There were 18 projects completed, 815 youth served by the various projects, three kids sent to Key Leader training and four kids to Kamp Kiwanis.

In the program year 2014-15, to date, members have contributed 927 service hours, completed 15 projects sent four kids to Kamp Kiwanis, four kids to Key Leader and one to HOBY leadership training.

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, by gathering an estimated 2,718 kayaks and canoes in one raft and raising over $100,000 for cancer research, One Square Mile of Hope of Inlet, NY and Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks of Old Forge, NY Inc. unofficially regained their place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest raft of kayaks and canoes.

Central Adirondack Kiwanis activities include a number of youth-oriented programs such as Town of Webb School Key Club – a high school service club, Town of Webb School Builders Club – a middle school service club, Paddle Classic, and Christmas for Kids, among many others.
