The Town of Webb Police Department’s patrols and persistence with the use of various types of surveillance pays off.

Early in the spring, complaints regarding illegal activity combined with observations by members of the Webb Police Department determined that more patrol emphasis was needed on the snowmobile trail system and town-owned lands. Members of the police department continued to monitor the use of the town’s trail system by vehicles, foot patrols and other types of surveillance throughout the summer.

Unfortunately, the growing of illegal marihuana can all too often be found on public and private lands far off the beaten path and go undetected.

Officer Tormey, with the aid of his K9 partner, Kimber, continued to show due diligence and search the town lands for this type of illegal activity throughout the summer months.

K9 Kimber is truly a talented narcotic scent-trained dog and landed one of the biggest finds of his career.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, K9 Kimber led her handler to multiple large illegal marihuana plants and an “organized manmade grow site” within the snowmobile trails system and on town property.

This type of proactive eradication helps deter illegal drug use in our community and also helps keep other types of illegal activity off our public/town lands.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency was contacted and the analysis of the ball root system of the eradicated plants determined a processed street value of approximately $50,000.

The Town of Webb Police Department would like to publicly thank Town of Webb Highway Superintendant Casey Crofut for the use of a dumptruck in the eradication process.

I would like to applaud both Officer Tormey and his K9 partner Kimber for their constant persistence, hard work and seizure of such a large quantity of an illegal drug that certainly would have had a negative impact on our community in many ways.

The investigation is ongoing in regards to the grow site and surveillance of several areas within town lands also continues.
