Services set for Helen E. Macdonald, 93

Helen E. Macdonald, 93, of Old Forge, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Masonic Care Community in Utica.

She was born on March 11, 1922, in Jamaica, Long Island, NY, a daughter of the late William A. and Helen E. Macdonough Miller. She married Angus (Mac) B. Macdonald on September 19, 1942, in St. Mary’s in the Highlands, Cold Spring, NY and he died on March 21, 1977.

Helen was a member of the Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge, where she belonged to the Women’s Fellowship group.  Continue reading

Private services held for Donald A. Welch, 70

Don WelchDonald A. “Don” Welch, 70, of Peru, NY, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Oneonta, NY on March 8, 1945, the son of the late Margaret (White) Bishop.

After his graduation, he joined the United States Army and served in Panama.

He was known as a handy-man, capable of fixing anything around the house.  Continue reading

Richard Rivette, 86, passes away

Richard Rivette died on October 6, 2015 at the VA Hospital in LaJolla, CA. Three weeks earlier, Dick celebrated his 86th birthday at a party in his honor at the poolside clubhouse of his “one year new” residence in Santee, CA hosted by his companion and caregiver, Stephanie West.

Born in Old Forge, NY, he attended school locally and graduated from Canton Tech.  Continue reading

Services planned for Patricia Rivett, 97

Patricia “Pat” Rivett entered eternal life on Friday, October 9, 2015. Pat was 97 years young at the time the closing notes of her finale faded.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Rivett and son Christopher “Chris” Rivett, Pat’s spirit is carried on by her seven children, 30 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and an extended family of friends. Continue reading

Services set for Pauline Nelson Gray, 88

Pauline Nelson Gray’s kitchen on earth is closed. After nearly 89 years, many of them spent doling out love and support with sticky buns, Paula went to heaven on Sunday, October 11, surrounded by her family and friends.

Paula was born to Norwegian and German immigrants, Alfred and Frieda Nelson, in Eagle Bay in the Adirondack Mountains on December 8, 1926.  Continue reading

Service held for Merle Leroy Fenton III, 70

Merle Leroy Fenton, III, 70, of Old Forge, passed away September 30, 2015, at home.

He was born April 19, 1945, in Athens, GA, the son of Merle Leroy Fenton, Jr. and Elizabeth Simmons Fenton.

He received his education in Bethel Park, PA. Mr. Fenton proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the American Legion.   Continue reading

CHRISTY, Maggie2Margaret “Maggie” Wackerle Christy, 95, was reunited with her husband in the afterlife on October 1, 2015.

She was born in Liverpool, NY, and lived most of her life in Westvale, NY. She graduated from Liverpool High School in 1937, and graduated cum laude in 1941, and earned her M.S. degree in 1944, from Syracuse University. She taught Public Speaking, Debate and Interpretation at Syracuse University in the 1940s, until she “retired” to work full-time as a wife and mother, the vocations of which she was most proud.
