Raquette Lake to host 13th Annual Durant Days; community readying a weekend-long celebration from August 5th to 7th

Raquette Lake will celebrate the 13th Annual Durant Days on Friday through Sunday, August 5 to 7.

The event honors the legacy and vision of William West Durant, a captain of industry during the Gilded Age of the late 1800s who made the Adirondacks a wilderness playground for the rich and is responsible for the Great Camp era.

On Friday, there will be an exclusive tour of Camp Pine Knot. Transportation will be available aboard the W.W. Durant.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling (315) 354-5532.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., there will be a free concert featuring a cappella group, Wide Variety, at the Raquette Lake School on Route 28.

From 2 to 5 p.m. the 5th Annual Poker Run will take place in the Raquette Lake Village.

There is a $10 entry fee and participants can register from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

The annual boat parade will begin at 7 p.m. and there will be a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

A moonlight cruise with entertainment aboard the W.W. Durant will be available from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Poker Run participants will be admitted free.

Durant Days continues on Sunday with free guided tours of Great Camp Sagamore from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

A luncheon cruise aboard the W.W. Durant and guided tour of St. Williams on Long Point will be available from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Twenty percent of the proceeds will be donated to St. Williams. Call (315) 354-5532 for reservations.

At 2 p.m. free water taxi service will be available from the village dock to St. Hubert’s Isle.

An ecumenical vespers service at the Church of the Good Shepherd will take place at 3 p.m.
