Fulton Chain of Lakes Association holds annual meeting at View

Inlet supervisor speaks about town’s new system; Frymire talks dye testing; Gillian discusses invasives…

The Directors of the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association met on Saturday, July 30 at Gould Hall at View.

One of the special guest speakers was Town of Inlet Supervisor John Frey who spoke about the town’s new sewer system that will be constructed in early 2012.

Supervisor Frey said the system exceeds present DEC regulations. He also described how the new system will enhance the town by providing better quality than the present individual septic systems.

Frey said the proposed building of the site will begin this fall and hopes it will be fired up in the summer of 2012.

The facility will accommodate 64 users at its inception, but the design will allow for quadruple that capacity if necessary in the future.

The system will extend from Mary’s Gift Shop at the south end to the Delmarsh property on Fifth Lake at the north end.

Leif Frymire of Woodgate, this year’s Town of Webb Dye Inspector, reported on his progress in testing 300 homes on the Fulton Chain and Big Moose Lake this summer.

Thus far he has discovered one major violation. He stressed how important it is for homeowners to know not only the location of their septic systems, but also how to maintain it.

Also in attendance was Gillian Meade who is working this summer for the Adirondack Watershed at Paul Smiths College.

She is one of 27 stewards hired from across the state to conduct boat inspections, with the heaviest concentration in the Adirondacks.

The positions were made possible by a Paul Smiths’ grant.

Gillian is working at the Raquette Lake and Fourth Lake boat launches where she educates boat owners about the dangers of transporting invasive aquatic plants.

She inspects their boats for plants such as water chestnut, and Eurasian watermilfoil and inspects the hull for zebra mussels.

This is all part of a project to preserve the integrity of the pristine waters of the Fulton Chain of Lakes.
