Old Forge: Thunder events support local Wounded Warrior Project

This year’s Thunder in Old Forge motorcycle event will be held Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2 and will honor military personnel and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Free admission to the event, which will be held at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center and Pavilion, will be offered to anyone who comes in uniform or who has a current military ID, including their families.

Among the military-themed events that will take place over the weekend will be a 10 a.m. Flag Dedication at the pavilion led by Bill Ransom of Old Forge American Legion Post 893. The flag had once flown over the White House, Ransom said. A sign board will be available on site for anyone who would like to sign up and make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project.

“We have a Wounded Warriors program here in Old Forge and bring four or five families down from Fort Drum periodically to enjoy a weekend in the Adirondacks. That’s what we raise the money for,” Ransom said.

The flag and the sign board will be sent to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division as a sign of local support.
