Hoofbeats in the Adirondacks: 200 enjoy equestrian variety show

By Anne Phinney

Hoofbeats in the Adirondacks” was held Thursday afternoon, July 7th, under a perfect blue sky at Moose River Farm in Old Forge.

A variety of equestrian performances set to moving music transformed the training facility into a sunlit theater.

A crowd of over 200 spectators was treated to a variety of horse-themed acts that included a military-style Quadrille, a Friesian Duet and a unique combination of choreography between a horse, rider and dancer.

In addition, two FEI, (world class) riders, Catherine Howard of Cooperstown and Darleen Callahan of Mt. Vision performed high level Dressage with their own horses.

In attendance was NY Times bestselling author, Susan Richards to sell and sign copies of her three books, Chosen by a Horse, Chosen Forever, and Saddled.

During the intermission, Susan read an excerpt from one of her books to the large audience.

Cowboy Will Hollister entertained and educated the crowd with the help of his stick horse, “Moose.”

Their hilarious demonstration of various higher level Dressage movements prepared the audience for what could be expected when the FEI horse and rider combinations took over the stage.

Emcee duties were handled brilliantly and professionally by CNY news anchor and avid horsewoman, Laura Hand.

Her immense knowledge of horses educated the crowd about all things horsey, from breed differences to training methods.

Many items were donated to raffle during the performances and a great time was had by everyone.

All proceeds from “Hoofbeats in the Adirondacks” will support VIEW, the new arts center in Old Forge.
