The inaugural CAP-py Duck Derby was held on Sunday, September 4, and according to Kristin Frymire of CAP-21, sponsor of the event, it was a big success with 1,600 ducks sold.
“It was a great day. Everyone was very excited and had lots of fun,” Frymire said. Proceeds of the fundraising event will support CAP-21’s community grants and projects.
Frymire said due to the overwhelming positive response to the derby, CAP-21 plans on holding it again next year.
The Grand Prize of $1,000, donated by Adirondack Bank and Enchanted Forest/Water Safari, was won by Bob Teesdale of Old Forge whose Duck #1054 was the first to cross the finish line.
The Second Prize of a $400 Dager kayak, donated by Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company was won by Lynn Killian of Liberty, NY whose Duck #1033 was the second duck to cross the finish line.
The Third Prize of a Gift Basket valued at $300, donated by the Old Forge Hardware, was won by Caitlyn Doyle of Thornwood, NY with Duck #1073.
The other winners were:
Jeane-Marie O’Donnell of New Jersey who won the Fourth Prize of $250, donated by Foley Law Firm, with Duck #1073.
Charles Higgings of Hardyston, NJ won the Fifth Prize of a $200 Rafting Trip, donated by ARO, with Duck #1543.
Dayna DeAngelo of Closter, NJ, won the Sixth Prize of $100 cash prize donated by Meyda Lighting, with Duck #146.
Stella Risley of Old Forge, whose “Lucky Duck” #7 won the Seventh Prize of a $100 cash prize donated by Benny’s Ice Cream.
Pete Yanulevich of Buffalo won the Eighth Prize of $100 cash prize donated by Nutty Putty Miniature Golf, with Duck #1567.
Carol Miske of Inlet won the Ninth Prize of $100, donated by Billy’s Restaurant, with Duck #956.
Jennifer Potter Hayes of Old Forge won Tenth Prize of $50, donated by Old Forge/Inlet Department Store Ace Hardware, with Duck #272.
Carol Miske of Inlet also won the Eleventh Prize of $50, donated by Overlook at Fifth B&B, with her second winning Duck #881.
George Bowles of Schen-ectady, won the Twelfth Prize of $50, donated by Gallery 3040, with Duck #522.
