Flying Scot District Regatta held on Fourth Lake

The local Flying Scot Fleet, in conjunction with Central Adirondack Sailing Association hosted the NY Lakes District Annual Flying Scot Championship Regatta on Fourth Lake on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and16.

Eighteen Flying Scots participated with visitors from Skaneateles, Piseco and Saratoga Lakes.

All the sailors enjoyed the experience of racing with eighteen boats in five races over two days.

The event was hosted at North Woods Inn with the races taking place near Palmer Point.

The local Fourth Lake based boats fared well with Duffy and Patrick Zornow taking third place overall, Nate Wilsey and Erin Zimmerman taking 7th place overall and Liz Cowles and Carey Lorraine placing in 8th place.

Other local skippers and crews completing all five races included Tom P. McCabe and Chris Cowles, Don Menz and Jim Sacket, Tom B. McCabe and Frank Belknap, Mark Steiger-wald and John Jeffrey, Dale Stanton and Peter King, Doug Smith and Heather Pulver, Wayne and David Menz, and Paul Wilsey and Butch Hartsig.

A great two days of sailing was enjoyed by all, and Fourth Lake residents enjoyed the scenic view of 18 sailboats competing together on the lake.

The regular racing season will continue through August 29 with two races every Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

All types of sailboats are welcome to join and Sunfish sailors are particularly encouraged.
