Volunteers still sought for Black Fly Challenge

The Black Fly Challenge Committee is looking to finalize its volunteer force for the annual mountain bike race being held on Saturday, June 13.

They are in need of one more spotter at Hidden Peak on Fern Mountain to direct racers from 11:45 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m.

A water station crew of three or four is needed at the Red River intersection in the Moose River Plains from 10:30 a.m. The sweeper truck passes about 3:15 p.m.

Manning a water station requires transporting water from Pedals & Petals to the station, where it will be opened and distributed to passing racers. Discarded bottles will be cleaned up at the end.

Volunteers will want to bring bug repellent, as they will remain on post till the sweeper truck passes.

A couple people are needed to help direct parking at Fern Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A person is needed in Fern Park at the finish line from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. to help clear the runoff area.

A couple people are needed as “shuttle supervisors” at the Inlet Community Church from 3:30 to 4 p.m. They will make sure only people who have signed up and paid get on the buses.

Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services could also use help with the food concession at Fern Park. They need people to provide salads and desserts, and to cook and serve food on the day of the event.

If you can help with any of these, please contact Adele Burnett at the Town of Inlet Information Office at 315-357-5501.
