Our Senior Health Activities & Recrea-tion Program has been up and running for nearly three months and we would like to thank those who have donated goods and services to our program.
The organizations include: Niccolls Church, the Town of Webb Health Center Fund, Inlet Community Church, DiOrio’s Market, Kinney Drugs, and CTS.
I would personally like to say a special thank you to the wonderful volunteers who really make this program what it is.
We have a great bunch of people who work well together and really show they care.
The volunteers do so much to make the program run smoothly, including picking up and serving food each week, helping set up and decorate, washing dishes, baking and bringing treats, assisting with rides, helping with paperwork, assisting with the activities, sharing valuable input and much more!
SHARP could not exist without this great group of volunteers.
We have many activities planned during our regular Wednesday gatherings throughout May.
And now that the weather is getting nicer, we have also planned a Sunday hike.
As always, there will be card games and snacks.
Our upcoming schedule includes:
May 6 – Learning Day. There will be word games and Chair Yoga with Kathy Queen in the morning.
At 1 p.m. we will go to the Old Forge Library to learn about New York’s 2-1-1 program.
May 13 – The theme for the day will be, Mother May I? There will be a Balloon Bonanza, an event planning session, and chair exercises.
May 20 – Is that Your Final Answer? It’s game day and we will play Jeopardy and other games. There will also be Chair Yoga with Kathy Queen.
May 27 – Tie a Yellow Ribbon. It will be a day of remembrance as we celebrate and reflect on those who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.
May 31 (Sunday) – Take a Hike day! All members of the community are welcome to join us. RSVP is requested by May 27.
Mark your calendars for our big fundraiser on June 6, SHARP Retro Day where we will be celebrating the 50’s.
Ladies, dig out your poodle skirts and men, grease back your hair…all are invited to come out and bop with us!
There will be dollar games, music, refreshments and a lot of surprises. Stay tuned for more details.
In the meantime, we are looking for some old 45 RPM records.
If you have some and are willing to let us borrow them, please contact me at the number or email below.
SHARP is a free program offered to all independent senior citizens from Woodgate to Raquette Lake.
We meet at Niccolls Memorial Church in Old Forge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday.
Lunch during our regular Wednesday sessions is provided by the Town of Webb Health Center Fund.
