State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) presented the Town of Webb UFSD Boys Alpine Ski Team with a NYS Citation on Friday, March 13 for their 2015 State Championship win.
The Senator presented the honor to team members Connor Glasser, Carter Lawrence, Adam Levi, and Charlie Uzdavinis prior to the start of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Old Forge.
The Citation reads: WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging our young individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the value of teamwork; by encouraging a healthy standard of living; by imparting a desire for success; and by developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, New York State has a long and rich history of competitive alpine ski racing; and
WHEREAS, Prior to competing at the State level, the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team became the Section III Champions on February 10, 2015, at Labrador Mountain in Truxton, New York; and
WHEREAS, On February 23, 2015, the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team captured the State Championship on the exceedingly challenging course at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York; and
WHEREAS, Distinguished Coach Tom Down has done a superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Coach Down, the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team has grown in skill and resolve, demonstrating outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, athletic excellence, and exemplary character reflecting favorably upon their school; and
WHEREAS, The talented members of the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team are Connor Glasser, Carter Lawrence, Adam Levi, and Charlie Uzdavinis; and
WHEREAS, Across the board, in both slalom and giant slalom, these outstanding athletes took the best four places of each team competing; and
WHEREAS, The team combined for a score of 31 points in the slalom and 31 points in the giant slalom for a total score of 69 points to win the State Championship; and
WHEREAS, With extraordinary enthusiasm and dedication, the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team dominated the 2015 Section III ski season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That as a duly elected member of the New York State Senate, I take this opportunity to congratulate Coach Tom Down and the members of the Town of Webb Union Free School District Boys Alpine Ski Team upon the occasion of becoming the 2015 State Champions and wish them good health and continued success.
