Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will be stopping in Old Forge on Tuesday, July 15, to introduce himself to voters and describe his plans to improve the New York State, if elected governor in the upcoming November election.
The event that includes a Meet and Greet will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Sandy (deCamp) King is one of the local organizers of the event.
“We encourage everyone to attend,” King said.
Everyone that has a stake in New York’s future will want to hear about Rob’s plan to move the state forward, she said.
This includes local residents whether they are tradesmen, secretaries, real estate agents, business owners, waiters and waitresses, teachers, white collar or blue collar workers, she added.
“This is about our kids and grandkids, and whether they can stay in New York or are forced to move,” King said.
Astorino will be on the ballot as the Republican and Conservative party candidate.
He is challenging incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Astorino said a major focus will be to reduce the tax burden, making it easier to live and do business in the state.
He will also implement fiscal policies to improve New York’s jobs creation climate.
Astorino said he is proud of the ability he has demonstrated in attracting crossover votes, particularly among independents and traditionally Democratic ethnic constituencies.
He is currently serving a second term as County Executive after being reelected by a 13-point margin in a county with a 2–1 Democratic enrollment advantage.
Republicans comprise just 24 percent of voters in Westchester, he said.
Astorino’s fiscal stewardship resulted in some of the biggest spending cuts and tax reductions in New York State.
His county earned the highest credit rating among counties in New York, and it has retained and attracted new businesses to the county, helping create 30,000 new private sector jobs from 2010 to 2014.
Before taking office as County Executive, Astorino said he enjoyed a successful career in the radio industry as a station manager, program director, and radio show host.
He was first elected to public office at age 21, serving as a member of the Mount Pleasant Board of Education.
He went on to serve 12 years as a councilman on the Mount Pleasant Town Board, including six years as deputy supervisor.
In 2003, he was elected to the Westchester County Board of Legislators.
He earned his B.A. in Communications from Fordham University, where he also minored in Spanish and Political Science.
Astorino is a lifelong resident of Westchester, where he and his wife, Sheila, are raising three young children.
