In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of President Benjamin Harrison’s inauguration and the Harrison exhibit at the Goodsell Museum, the Old Forge Post Office hosted a special postmark cancellation event on Thursday, July 10 at Old Forge Lake Cruises.
President Harrison had a summer retreat on the Fulton Chain and was instrumental in establishing the mail boat service.
Over 100 pieces of mail were stamped by local postal workers Mary Lamphear, Lonnie Price and Sarah Hulser during the event.
To further recognize Presi-dent Harrison’s inauguration and his affiliation with Old Forge and the Town of Webb, a 125th anniversary party is planned for Thursday, July 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Goodsell Museum.
The fund-raising event will include wine and beer tastings and hors d’oeuvres. Hosts are Doc and Judy Foley, Linda and Sarah Cohen, Dr. Mark and Susan Webster, Charlie and June Kiefer, and Al and Ruth Brussel.
The cost is $50 per person or $90 a couple. More information is available by calling (315) 369-3838.
