Old Forge Farmers’ Market: 7th season opens on June 27

The Old Forge Farmers’ Market, located on Park Ave. behind the Old Forge Hardware, kicks off its seventh season on Friday, June 27th.

The Market will be open every Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. through October 10 under the direction of Managers Reed and Barb Proper.

Based upon the number of applications received, the market will again provide a full variety of the fruits of the farm. Once again the market will also provide the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with participating farmers.

Because of the positive response to the artisans and craftspeople who displayed their work last year, an Artisans Alley has been added to this year’s market.

The market will offer several opportunities for public education and information. As part of Invasive Species Week, on July 11, the OFFM will have a representative from the Adirondack Watershed Institute at Paul Smith’s, as well as local expertise on invasive species management, native plantings and the new DEC regulations. Please bring in your plants or any suspected invasives for identification. The Herkimer County Cooperative Extension will be there on July 18 and August 15 with info on health and nutrition.

As in prior seasons, the Old Forge Farmers’ Market invites local non-profits to use the market for information and generating support for their work.

Look for the Town of Webb Historical Association and One Square Mile of Hope, and be sure to adopt your CAP-PY Duck at the market to support the work of CAP-21 and possibly win $100,000.

The Farmers’ Market is brought to you by CAP-21, which remains committed to using any market proceeds to support our regional food pantries at St. Bartholomew’s and Niccolls Memorial.

Last season CAP-21 provided approximately $2,800 in local SNAP and food pantry donations. For more information, contact CAP-21 at (315) 369-3353 or at info@cap-21.org.

Nick Rose, director of CAP-21, extends the organization’s appreciation to Old Forge Hardware for their continuing support of the Farmers’ Market.
