Alice Romanych, regional planning and program manager of the NYS Department of Transportation of Utica, contacted Town of Webb Supervisor Ted Riehle on Thursday, June 19 to inform him that repair work on a stretch of Route 28 from Old Forge to Eagle Bay will begin next week.
Romanych said the DOT has entered into an agreement with Suit-Kote Corporation of Cortland to begin micro-paving portions of the deteriorating roadway that has caused havoc for motorists the last few months.
Though she recognizes that the repair project is a short-term fix to get roads driveable for the upcoming heavily-trafficked summer and fall seasons, she said an extensive repair plan is currently in the works and will be implemented in 2015.
“She (Romanych) said the current condition of the road is something the DOT has been aware of for some time, but it takes time to get a plan together as they need to do design work for the more extensive repairs,” Riehle said.
Romanych said they hope to have the work done prior to July 4th.
