Ruby B. Chesebro, 80, passes away

Ruby B. Chesebro, 80, of Thendara and formerly of Sherrill, NY, died peacefully at her home while surrounded by her family on January 1, 2014Back Camera

She was born January 2, 1933, in Sherrill, a daughter of George and Mary (Turner) Barnes. Ruby graduated from Sherrill High School and attended Cortland State College. She was united in marriage with her childhood sweetheart, William F. Chesebro, on September 5, 1953, in Sherrill.

Ruby donated several years of her life to the 4-H program and the Boy Scouts. She was also a certified EMT. Ruby was an outdoor person. She enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, and anything nature-oriented, all while accompanied by her husband and children.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, William; two sons, Michael and his wife Cristina Chesebro and William R. Chesebro; three daughters, Robin Schuttenberg and her husband, Kurt, Shawn Chesebro, and Sandra Barrett; four grandchildren, Michael Chesebro, and Kim, Kyle, and Kate Schuttenberg; two brothers, George Barnes and his wife, Nodia, and Bob Barnes and his wife, Sara; and a sister, Pamela Pearson and her husband, David. Ruby was predeceased by her brother Bill Barnes, and Sandra’s husband Chuck Barrett.

Ruby’s family wishes to thank the volunteers of the Respite Care program, HASCA, and Hospice for the gentle and compassionate care given to her.

In accordance with Ruby’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider a donation in Ruby’s memory to HASCA, P.O.
